FadOf2009 was so sneaky and strategic about her Oscar nom. The way she scurried to the show like a rat, unnoticed, in 2014 (and we were like, why is she even there), plotting and scheming. And 2 years later she's attending as a nominee.

They could give it to The Weeknd to not seem like racists, they could give it to that random song from a documentary to seem like they hate all those popular bimbos and appreciate indie (<3333333) or the award could go to Simple Song #3 because it is written by a Pulitzer award winner and sung by an Asian women.
Gaga definitely has the Oscar on-lock which is honestly impressive to give credit where it's due given that 2 years ago it seemed she was destined for Myth X-level irrelevancy. But whether it will help LG5 become a success is another matter
