Actually, it's about half and half. There are just a little bit more closed primaries and caucuses than open, like maybe 4 - 8 more. However, there are a few semi-closed primaries/caucuses, which means both undecided and independents can register the same-day to participate in the voting. NH was a semi-closed primary.

Remember places like Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, D.C., Dems Abroad, American Samoa, etc have their open primaries/caucuses as well.
