Let's pray for Mad Max that it keeps its momentum. BAFTA snubbed it and Miller for Picture and director, but still bagged almost all of the technical nods to end up as the 3rd most nominated film. It deserves to be started least nominated for best picture, and Miller needs to win director. What he did with Fury Road was outstanding.

It could follow in the footsteps of, say, Inception which even after Pic/Dir/Wtg noms at Bafta (+6 more) still couldn't bag that Oscar Directing nom.
District 9 got the same # of Bafta noms as Fury Road but it included Director/Wtg and that also missed an Oscar Directing nom.
Dark Knight got 9 Bafta noms and the whiny tantrums over it missing Oscar noms for Pic and Dir and Wtg made the board of directors expand BP.

I watched Ex Machina over the weekend I was blown away!! What an outstanding movie! All this time I thought a dumb sci fi movie and its way more tha that. It deserves some recognizion especially cuz it was an indie movie I read what the director said about it and he said he decided to make it independently so they wouldn't ask him to change anything or include dumb action scenes.

This also deserves a nomination!

Also look out for Free State of Jones coming this year for next years Oscars. They did some great stuff like actually burning down a house. It will be a great film.

Just seen The Danish Girl. Beautiful movie, Eddie is amazing. Alicia didn't convince me 100% though idk, I'm not really into her facial expressions of pain? They look amateur-ish. Good performance, nonetheless.

I would be so here for The Big Short to do better than expected. Steve Carrell deserves more attention for Lead Actor, it's a shame he never gained any traction.

It's incredibly un-crowded tho; one of the worst fields in recent history. There are only 5 guys with even 2 major-ish noms, with 4 of them considered pretty weak and would never win in an average year, giving a very free way to Leo's win. And most of them are in movies expected to miss a BP nom too.
Compare to McConaughey/Ejiofor/DiCaprio/Bale/Dern.

I would prefer Spotlight, partially because it's way more acclaimed (2nd place on year-end critics' lists vs. 17th), partially so Regina George is the main female in a BP winner. Also Big Short seems so...bro-y.

I hope not. Fury Road has done better with all the critics awards, precursors (except for BAFTA) so far, right? George Miller has also been the most nominated/awarded director so far this year. I don't remember Nolan being that heavily awarded during Inception.
