Idk if this is racist or a generalisation or whatever and i don't mean to be offensive but all the Asian exchange students in my uni are SO RUDE. They're really arrogant and they only talk to each other if they can help it

So anyways it's because when you make friends in college you'll realize how bad your HS friends are. You may not believe me now but trust me you will

I never noticed the slight racism, discrimination, and hate I got from my own friends because I wasn't like them. It was terrible. For example sometimes they only hung out with me because they wanted to seem diverse (because only Asians hung out with other Asians). Sometimes it was because they needed an extra person for a group meal discount and they ran out of Asians to ask, sometimes it was because "black people are more athletic he can win this sports match for us" etc and I always felt accepted so I never cared

Now that I think about it, horrible

actually monte's right. when i made friends in college i realized that i only really liked 3 of my old high school friends some of the rest of them were either really rude to me or they just were annoying. in college i started finding people that actually were more like me and i liked more than just a little and it was like...how did i even deal with this in high school?

Not all of hem were bad. Out of the 40ish friends I had in HS, I talk to about 5 of them, 4 of which are apart of my close friends circle (though I didn't talk to some of them in HS we use knew each other then)

The others I occasionally see but they usually avoid me because they try to make the same jokes about me in HS. "Lol stop acting so black you're better than that" I don't take that anymore I know better . Whatever

Funny thing was I would tell them in HS I was only half black and half Latino but they didn't believe me. Apparently I acted "too black" to only be half. Like I can't believe we used to be friends ch!

Also consider seeing what your school offers in terms of classes on sexuality (they'll be in the sociology / gender studies programs). They can be great for learning the history of the gay rights movement. Take one as an elective, and if you like it you can consider a minor and keep going.

And if you're lucky, they might be taught by someone who's part of the community—potentially giving you a professor you can trust and go to if you ever need to.

I read something that said that high school friends are really more 'friends of convenience' ie. it's convenient to be friends with them because they're right there. in HS you tend to make friends with people that you spend a lot of time with because it's easy, not because you actually have a lot in common with them or anything. Once you graduate you realize who your real friends are and who your friends of convenience are because you'll stop talking to some of them
