Yeah, if you're someone like Ariana Grande. No one would really care if she flops behind Adele because its expected.
However, someone like Rihanna is different. She relies on topping the charts (at least H100). Her eras are built around great hype anticipation where she's usually the standout artist (she never really competes with anyone else). It creates a narrative and seemingly leaves Rihanna appearing as victorious.
Releasing ANTI around a HUGE success like 25 would be disastrous. Every music publication, every music critic, every blogger, every stan would drag Rihanna/ANTI merciless in comparison.
It's just the way it is for some artist. Sorry..
