I trained my dogs when they were young, but they are still such flops 30% of the time they'll pee in the wrong place.
I had to leave both of mine all alone for 7 months once . We were moving back to Singapore and didn't know abt the quarantine rules. I sometimes wonder if they got mistreated in that period. One of them came back a bit shook. Thankfully, he's fine now.

I know it's heartbreaking.
Sadie wasn't adopted from a home though, I basically stole her from a traveler family.
I saw her at my cousin's as she was looking after her for the day (she worked there). It was supposed to be temporary until her owners returned to the shop and picked her up. I saw her, fell in love instantly and offered to look after her for one week until she had to return, instead of respite at the pet shop. During that week, she would piss and **** on the floor in fright and cry in the corner, as if I was going to beat her. My heart broke. She was heavily underweight and fearful of everything.
I refused to give her back as I really felt I could help her, and after I properly investigated, I found out who her owners were and told them that if they wanted their dog, they would need to report me to the police for theft, or physically attack me.
Obviously many years have passed since and she's well looked after, fed and watered, loves me as much as I love her, well trained, knows English words (I'm deadly serious, she's so smart!) and has a routine. I could not imagine my life without her.
She's my baby
(soz for the essay)
