Yeah an image like Madonna's was too controversial to constantly sell 10M albums each era but Whitney was so vanilla
that her sales decline was major considering she played it so safe.
Madonna was pushing the needle forward and I honestly think she was more bothered by Janet and clearly vice versa because Whitney's lane was a great singer.
Madonna's lane was a great entertainer and Janet danced way better and performed way better and was just as creative she just didn't have controversy and was the wrong race.
with the bodyguard Whitney resurrected from tepid sales due to Mariah taking over and luckily she had that. Luckily Madonna and Diana ross are not great singers because they were both intersted in the role of the bodyguard but Costner wanted someone that could sing
