Taylor's country background puts her in such a unique position of power though. I also believe her greatest "weakness" is that she doesn't really have many truly memorable pop songs. But at the same time, despite all complaints about how she was never country, she's a cosmic force in the country music scene, and they'll play songs her songs for years to come. Polls of the country music industry during 1989 also suggest the country music scene would welcome her with open arms if and when she ever decided to return. Also, she reaches such a large group of people who really love and relate to and know her music beyond her pop singles.
To this day, I think her only potential long-term pop songs are probably You Belong With Me and Shake It Off.
But she seems to get bigger and smarter and much better at crafting pop songs with every album.

The Ariallah bandwagon >>>>> the Adelephant bandwagon
At least the former shows that you can have vocal talent and don't have to always put out sleepy old people music to have a career. I'm so sick of the notion that if you have a big voice, you automatically have to take the Celine route and spend your life recording dull ballads.
It's TOO hard to create a true immortal Pop classic in the Pop genre. It's much better to have a song rooted in another genre that just happens to cause the Pop audience.
Making pure Pop music is never going to make you a legend or immortal in the long run. Just look at the songs from the old decades that SYG stans for, most of them aren't Pop.
