The Mystery Ball - Judges' Critiques

Runway:
Carrie: I like the villain you chose. The outfit is cute, I like the geometrical pointy sleeves and I think the belt could be cute. Not sure what you were going for with the bottom of the dress but I'm not a fan. I feel like a cloak or shawl-ish thing or something would have tied this together more and invoked the villain even more. And where are the accessories girl?
Koko: Interesting choice, I like the fins on the legs but I think the big orange jutting shoulder could've been toned down into a trim on the dress or something. The earrings are cute and I like the idea of the scales, I hope they would be shimmery. Not feeling this hair, maybe a mohawk would've fit the fin design on the creature or slicked back hair since it's aquatic? Could use more accessories.
Chanel: Love the skull accessories here and the dress is definitely indicative of this villain. The other accessories were cute too, I love the colours. I wasn't sold on the jacket followed by reveal but I think it could be akin to "setting alight" like your villain. It all looks very cute. Not sure about the wig you mentioned though.
Scarlett: Ahh I remember this dude. I think this one was easy to form an outfit around so good choice. I see your reasoning for the transparent cloak but I feel it would be a bit better matching if it was furrier. Like maybe all fur? I think the rest of the outfit is very cute and works well. I think the makeup could be more dramatic though, like instead of doing soft sparkly glittery face give yourself huge edgy white lashes like this dude has.
Plot:
Carrie: Is that the first death in Scooby herstory? I thought the Regina Spectre name was funny. I think the cutting the lights and murdering DJs is a bit un-Scooby but playing Pretty Girls over a track is definitely the kinda **** that a Scooby villain would do. I think this piece shows your sense of humour well. Some parts felt a bit unnecessary but it was a good plot overall.
Koko: Petty misdemeanors over incredibly trivial things? Definitely Scooby Doo territory. The evidence hidden in an easily accessible location too, you should become a writer for the show. The name isn't doing anything for me though and it is a bit short. Needed more detail, expand sis.
Chanel: Love the newspaper set-up and look at you shading Pearl! I think the motive is definitely Scooby material, but let's be real here: a wig villain in Scooby Doo would just dress in Jade Jolie's hairy couture. Like the name though and think it was pretty good overall.
Scarlett: It was kind of short. I liked the last part with the plan, but the villain itself was a little dull. I think the plot is definitely Scooby material, but one of the lesser episodes tbh. Like Koko you needed to expand more, there's definitely potential but I needed more.

Paws on the runway:
Carrie:
I really like what you did here. I feel like it was not predictable like some others, you chose something a little different, but it had enough personality and influence from the actual character to be great. Though, a little bland.
Koko:
This is my favourite, you went for something very different. The outfit is completely inspired by the character, rather than just taking a colour scheme your outfit is literally like it's skin and i Love the fins on the legs.
Chanel:
I feel like, in general, you were inspired by a colour rather than a character. When I see this character, I see fire. When I see your outfit, I see just the colour red. It could've been a lot more! BUT I love the skull influence so that really redeems you.
Scarlett:
I think you chose a really bad character for this. It doesn't have enough distinct features, or any real detail to it, to really make me gag as it's transformed into an outfit. Other than the colours being the same, I don't really see it.
Spooky plot:
Carrie:
I love your plot! I love how you included and mentioned the other contestants, and actually you've done it a lot in your entries, but it never fails to make me laugh. I love you making a joke of them, Bianca. The idea of a queen haunting a club and ruining lip syncs is genius.
Koko:
Not tonya and kerry Stealing drinks from club goers This is a mess but I enjoy it and I can see it being entertaining.
Chanel:
Ok I was low key bored by this until you revealed it was yourself I screamed: The entry is interesting. Your approach was good, you went for detail and really provided an actual idea of how the whole episode would go.
Scarlett:
this really falls flat against the others. I wish it had a little more, like even a joke about how the criminal was Madonna looking for a way to be young or something... I just needed more than this.

Carrie Messiah –
The Look: This is very, very similar to the outfit Mr. Hyde wore. It fits with him so well that I half-expected Mrs. Hyde to pop out looking like this. That being said, there is a certain lack of detail in comparison to some of the other looks that were submitted. However, your two looks are so cohesive that I find myself forgiving it a bit.
The Story: I was LIVING for this, oh my goodness. Your humor is on full-display here, and you managed to give me backstory while still throwing in pop culture references all throughout. I was missing the Scooby element at first, but the more I read the more it made sense. Love every bit of this, enough to tip more than $3.
Koko Khalyan –
The Look: I think this is the least conventionally attractive of the four looks, though it’s one of the most unique (an Udders tea). At first glance this was my least favorite, but, the more I look at it, I totally get the 80s inspirations. This reminds me of Detox’s candy couture; understandable coming from her, but still not as fashionable as it needed to be.
The Story: …Girl what? This was lazy. There wasn’t anything spooky, you were literally just an angry gay attacking other queens. This was a letdown.
Chanel DiAngelo –
The Look: Slay me, my goodness. I need you to get on Season 10 and make this outfit a reality, because it would be in the Top 5 looks of all time. You’ve been the Violet of this season, performance-wise, and you certainly turned out the fashion challenge.
The Story: Not you pulling this archaic ass language out on us. I know they’re different (wanton vs. wonton), but I was still thinking of a weeping Chinese dumpling for half of your story. That being said, this read like a nice plot summary for a Mystery Inc. episode - a little darker than the other incarnations, but still staying true to the Scooby formula. I enjoyed this overall, even if it was lacking personality in a few area.
Scarlett LaPierre –
The Look: This was *almost* perfect. My one issue is the dress you have underneath the cloak; it’s not different enough. You go from a draping white cloak to a draping white gown. I think you should’ve been semi-nude underneath, with ice crystals covering your body ala Mystique in X-Men. That would’ve been iconic. Don’t get me wrong, this is still almost flawless. But not quite flawless.
The Story: Hm. You were supposed to give your villain a name (unless it’s Snow Queen, in which case it should’ve been more clear). Other than that, this feels a little underwhelming. We come away not really knowing a lot about the spook. Yeah, she wants to live forever, but why? Who is behind the mask? What else does she do? You covered the bases but they were covered very thinly.

The Looks
Carrie - The translation from male villain to female is clear but I felt this was a little too simple. The makeup wasn't extravagant and what is a queen with no jewels? I would've loved for you to push this further.
Koko - I saw this a immediately thought "Judy Jetson hookah". The translation from monster to queen was good and flowed well, but this outfit was a little too simple for me. I get the 80's vibe, but it feels cheap 80's.
Chanel - This is beyond any expectations I would've expected. This perfectly entails the look, feel and vibe of your original character but also manages to bring the DRAG aspect to the look. Every piece, even each accessory flows well and not only looks amazing but is on-point character wise.
Scarlett - Your look fits your villain perfectly and looks amazing. The only flaw I can see here, if I'm being *really* picky is that I see beautiful ice queen - I don't really see monster from this. Regardless, good job.
The Stories
Carrie - Gurl, you really picked up Chanel's knack for not knowing when too much is enough here. The story earns points for creativity, but loses a few for being a bit too all over the place
Koko - Simple but fun and tongue-in-cheek story about your character.
Chanel - This was the most creative and uniquely done entries of the bunch, however this isn't quite what the challenge called for. I feel you lost so many chances to describe and introduce your character because you focused so heavily on drafting an exciting story/article.
Scarlett - This felt a little too short and to the punch, but you got your character, her actions and motivations down.

Anyway, I'm on next so I'll likely miss results. Wishing luck to everyone!

Episode 12
The Mystery Ball - Bottom Two
This week, you girls were given a Mystery Ball, and you all served us Mystery Inc. realness. One of you, however, gave us looks that made us want to Scooby Dooby do you...
...
Chanel DiAngelo
Condragulations, you are the winner of this week's challenge. You are in the Top 3.
Koko Khalyan, your spooky gymnist plotline didn't stick the landing, and the judges think it might be time for her to retire from the sport. I'm sorry, my dear, but you are up for elimination.
Carrie Messiah. This week, your story was your strong point, but your fashion...faltered. Scarlett LaPierre, your fashion was a hit with some judges, but your mystery was a little too hard to figure out. Here's a clue:
Carrie Messiah,
You are safe. Congratulations, you are in the Top 3. Scarlett, I'm sorry, my dear, but you are up for elimination.
Scarlett LaPierre and Koko Khalyan, you have 24 hours from this post (Friday, October 23rd @ 9:30 PM EST) to send me your reasoning for why you deserve to make it to the Top 3. If you do not submit, you will be eliminated.

Omg! Thank you judges Congrats Chanel!
TOO: I knew you'd think it was too long! I had a longer version that I cut with you in mind Every detail that was left was something I thought was necessary or funny or something.
Good luck to Koko and Scarlett. I don't want either one to be eliminated Instant comeback round please!

This is a little weird since we didn't all write our own parts exclusively and a couple of us did the heavy lifting. (But since this didn't weigh in as heavily, I guess it's not a huge deal.)

I'll start this off by saying there is no major "point" to this post. I'm not arguing with anything, I'm not trying to make a point, establish something, or anything of the sort. This is just me letting out my thoughts and feelings about this round.
This round started off with high stakes and higher tensions; it was going to make or break some of our chart runs, and us as queens; and it established who the final three was. The stakes are higher than ever with that, and everyone knows that. The contestants know that, the host knows that, the judges know that, and the 4 people who view the thread aside from the players also know that. And because of that, I started off this round with some anxiety that Scarlett knows about because we've grown close throughout this competition and we've come to a point where we talk daily.
I found myself most frustrated with the game at first. It was barely responsive to me, and I didn't know if that was an issue on my end or an issue on the game's end, and I nearly tossed that aside as a pointless part of the round; talking to Scarlett made me realize it was just as important as any of the aspects of this challenge, because it was still 1/3 of it all.
Part two was my most favorite part; I'd put together a few ensembles before for other reasons using Polyvore, and I thought that previous experience would come in handy with that; the results prove that it would. But even then, I was still nervous about how my outfit would be received. I kept changing which villain I wanted to do, because I initially wanted to do something from a feminine character, but grew frustrated with everything I saw. I kept making and discarding entire outfits because none of them made sense to me or were any way pleasing or satisfying. I came upon Lord Infernicus, and I knew instantly I'd use skeletal accessories; I found the shoes next, then based the rest of the outfit around that. In the midst of this, I began helping Scarlett with her ensemble, because she hadn't put together any collages before, so after she'd gotten her pieces chosen, I put them together in Polyvore. And I was confident with both of our entries after that.
Part three was strange. I didn't know what I was going to do a majority of the time we had to work on this; I was extremely anxious about that part the most, because I was clueless. The alliteration of Weeping Wig Wanton came to me first, and I put together the newspaper gig soon after.
Scarlett and I reviewed each other's entries; we were trying to be as critical of each other as we could, because we knew what this challenge meant and wanted to cover our bases as best as we could in case there was any way the judges could come for us. And in the end, we felt generally confident with what we had done, but anxieties soon set in yet again when the entries were posted as we saw Koko & Carrie had drawn theirs. As we discussed in the thread, there were so many ways the judges could take our entries; they could shame Scarlett & I for not being creative enough to draw, or we could still be praised for what ensembles we put together. We worried which way the judges would take that; there was a lot more room for interpretation than there have been in past entries.
Meanwhile, the question that was asked of us on who deserves to make top 3 was looming over our heads the entire time. Even before the question was asked, we thought about it, and worried about our answers. Even before I'd gotten any tea (from Carrie & Scarlett since they talked), I assumed at least someone would say me, and I wondered what kind of impact that would have on the judging. I felt kind of bad for what I said, since it came off abrasive towards both Carrie & Koko (though, from a competing standpoint, I still agree with what I said about Koko; I realize what I said about Carrie was irrelevant to the competition), but it also let out a lot of tensions that I'd had against Koko throughout the competition. I know there's been some beef with me and her and Smarties, and it's been itching at me for weeks. It felt like they were quick to disregard me because of their personal feelings about me, regardless of what the results would show. I grew incredibly irritated with Smarties mentioning of my name and slick comments (as Scarlett knows, because I vented to her in hopes I wouldn't make a mess in the thread like what happened in the past with Wilhelmina), and although I think there's nothing much to cover with Smarties, I thought the answering of the question at least let out some of those tensions with Koko.
And now, with these results... I'm incredibly torn. I'm super thankful for my win. I'm incredibly thankful for that. I don't have many (different) words to say on that other than it means a lot to me. I didn't expect a fourth win; not because I didn't think I wasn't worthy (despite my anxieties), but because I figured the judges would say "let's not give this bitch four wins; someone else deserves another one", and to hear I'd won again was a pleasant surprise. I'm happy with it, and I feeling recognition is something I don't want to turn down. But then the bitterness of my good friend Scarlett being in the bottom set in. Not that I necessarily want to say "Carrie deserves to be bottom 2 more"; I don't mean to say that, but it still hurts to see my friend in the bottom 2 especially when I was somewhat expecting her to snatch this round. And I feel partially responsible for this. When we were going over our outfits, I highly recommended the dress and cape that she chose. There were multiple options for both, and I strongly recommended the ones she went with, and those both got negative comments from the judges for being slightly off in one way or another. And then the game, part one, came into play. At first, I struggled to even get close to her score, but I randomly surpassed it after trying as hard as I could, and she fought to keep up again. I knew it meant a lot to her to keep up this round. And eventually, she tied with the same score as me, and we planned to submit both. But that day, she'd continued to play until she got a score that in fact beat mine; I don't blame her for it, cuz I know she needed it, but we'd agreed to still go ahead and submit the tied scores, and I can't help but think that little boost could've at least helped her a bit.
This whole round has probably been the hardest on me; episode four and episode seven were the hardest before this (and y'all know why; I won't go over it again), but this easily surpassed it. The results are very, very bittersweet, and I wish it wouldn't have to be.
Sorry for the length of this. I realize it's rambling, and I realize y'all probably don't care that much to see my inner dialogue, but it feels better to at least let it out.

I kept changing my villain for part 2 as well. There were a lot of female villains I could have used, but I'm glad I went with dragging up Mr. Hyde in the end. Citrus' comment re: Mrs. Hyde was so nice to hear
