The unfortunate mismatch is that she's not an artist. She's an entertainment rapper. Like a Lil' Kim, but with more business sense. She's not a Missy Elliot/Lauryn Hill.

But I like that she tried. She's in an important role as the only serious mainstream female rapper around. So I'm always rooting for her to get better. The game needs some diversity damn.

I can't think of any POP musician as interesting.
The bold part to me is a reach to make Madonna impact seems grandiose because there were actually a LOT of artists challenging gender, religion etc such as Prince, Bowie, etc. Bowie to me as BIGGER impact on imagery in pop culture than Madonna.
But i must i admit i need to educate myself more on her career to have a accurate point of view of her achievement.
