Even ARTPOP is more complex than The Fame though. The instrumentals and production are heaven, (even Jewels and Drugs sounds good without vocals). The themes of some of the songs are pretty dull (Sex Dreams, Fashion! G.U.Y.) but makes it up in charisma imo.
It just didn't get translated well by her campaign and as a result there was a disconnect between the dancey music (but certainly not generic) and her ARTY message she wanted to send. Honestly the concept itself isn't half bad, it was the execution that ****ed it over. The Fame on the other hand was simple, basic, edible and the people ate it up. There's not much she could've done to **** it up because it wasn't convoluted like AP.
