All you're doing is showing you have no idea how the industry worked back then. Nowadays there is a much heavier emphasis on singles and most major forms of consumption are diligently measured (streaming, sales, AirPlay). Back then many iconic hits could only really be huge on MTV and they still produced multi Platinum albums and huge stars.

A song like Sometimes did well enough on pop radio but it was also a global top 10 hit and helped push sales of the album in the US to 14m. People bought the CD instead of the single.

That's why 16 years later it has over 50m views on Vevo despite only going Top 25 at the time

I looked at the stats and without DC bey is at 32.4m (non video), and she's defo bigger than taylor as of right now. Whereas with DC partially, bey is at 50m which seems about right. Considering tays at 39m.
