I know you guys might now care, but I went in-depth on how I feel about the album.
And I also did a track-by-track review.

Album Review
Okay so I listened to Honeymoon a couple of more times, and I still stand by what I said earlier. This album just isn’t as good as her first two. There’s something missing with this one. I’m really hoping it grows on me, and I really wanna like the album as a whole, but I just can’t. I will say, there are a couple of songs that I think are amazing. Such as; Freak, The Blackest Day, Religion, Terrence Loves You, Art Deco and God Knows I Tried. But the other songs are just… uninspired. Some of the lyrics are just so cheesy and unnecessary. But then, there are songs like Blackest Day and God Knows I Tried, where the lyrics are the best part of the songs.
Another thing that really gets me are the vocal melodies. I mean 24 is just so messy. Also, it seems like on some songs she’s not even trying with the chorus’. And like I said before, she doesn’t have to go back to the BTD sound, but all of the songs on this album are just so slow. Like, unbelievably slow. I get a couple of songs being a little slower in tempo, but every single song?? I’ll probably keep the songs I like, and delete the rest (the first time I’ve ever done this with Lana. I mean, I even keep all of the Ultra songs.)
And that cover of Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood is just tragic. I had high expectations for that song, considering it’s one of my fav Nina Simone songs, and she really let me down. I’m really glad that she seems happier and that she’s very proud of this album, but I think it’s one of her worse. (It’s above Ultraviolence though, so it’s not THE worst.)
I just want her to focus more on the music. Her lyrics are fine the way they are, but the productions on her songs lately, (not including the soundtrack songs) are just boring. If she would just change it up a little, and try something a different, it would make her music so much better.
I’ll always be a fan of Lana’s and I think I’ll always love her, but this album and Ultra just didn’t do anything for me. But like I said, it can grow on me (hopefully it will).
I’m still looking forward to her next album though. I’m curious to see what it sounds like.
Track-by-track review
Song Reviews:
Honeymoon: This song is such a damn bore fest. There is literally nothing good about it. The only thing that I really like are the strings. Other than that, there is nothing interesting. It starts to pick up during the bridge, but then it just drops down again. And the repetitive chorus is just… blah. I wish she would’ve tried harder. The harmonies are gorgeous, but it is a terrible opener and that messes up the flow of the album. (4/10)
Music To Watch Boys To: This song could’ve been so SO good, but it just falls flat. The vocal melody in the chorus is really nice, but the production is just very dull. The pre-chorus is glorious though, the saving grace of this song to be honest. The lyrics could have been better, but they’re not THAT bad. They’re just… okay. (6.5/10)
Terrence Loves You: Now this song is a standout track. I love everything about it; the strings, the lyrics, the production, her vocals. All of it is just beautiful. When I first heard this song, it was love at first sight. I just wish she would have made more songs like this for this album. The sadness in her voice just gets me, and I get goosebumps every time I hear the bridge (especially the second-half.) 10/10
God Knows I Tried: This is another one of the highs from this album. I seriously think Lana’s best songs are her ballads. I mean, almost every single one of my favorite songs from her are ballads. The emotion she evokes when she sings the chorus just hits me every time I hear it. The chorus, albeit a bit repetitive, is beautiful. Especially the last chorus. When she hits those high notes, I get shivers. And the bridge is just so beautiful, I mean the lyrics are so amazing. These are the types of songs that don’t really need much production, because her voice carries the song on its on. 10/10
High By The Beach: The first time I heard this song, I fell in love. I don’t know if it was because I thought the songs was amazing, or because I was happy that it was more up-beat than the title track. But I really enjoyed the song, and I thought that it was gonna be one of my favorites from the album, but I was wrong. After listening to the song for a couple of weeks, the charm is starting to wear off. There is just nothing exciting about it. Her voice sounds very monotone and the production is just so uninteresting. This is the type of song that requires her to have the same attitude that she had when she recorded Gods & Monsters, but it doesn’t. Pair that with a dull production and uninspired lyrics, and you have a mess of a song. (6.5/10)
Freak: Freak is another high on this album. The lyrics in the chorus are not that great, but the way she sings them makes up for it. The production is amazing though. I love how she mixed trap with jazz, and added her own personal style to it. The bridge is very… interesting, but the production makes up for it. (The chords are AMAZING!) Also the ah’s during the second and last chorus adds so much, and it makes it even better. (9.5/10)
Art Deco: I really love this song. The production, the lyrics, her vocals; all of it is just amazing. Again, I love how she mixed trap elements with jazz, it kinda reminds me of Born to Die a little. (8.5/10)
Burnt Norton: It’s really unneeded, but there is just something about Lana’s voice that makes me wanna listen to her for hours, so it’s not terrible I guess. (Not rating it though)
Religion: This song is just so beautiful, another high on the album. The pre-chorus is definitely the strongest part of this song. The way she sings, “it never was about the money or the drugs/for you there’s only love”, is spectacular. The production is very good on this song. It’s very subtle, but still impactful. My only problem with this song is the lack of bridge. I really dislike when a song doesn’t have one (especially since, sometimes that is the best part of a song). Other than that, no complaints from me. (9/0)
Salvatore: (The creepy laughing in the intro scares the hell out of me. I swore there was someone in my room when I first heard the song.) This song is very bland to me. I really appreciate her taking a chance with this song, but it just does nothing for me. The lyrics are so cheesy and sometimes, they don’t even make sense. (Like her rhyming “limousine" with "soft ice-cream”.) The production is very weak, and the song doesn’t pick up until the last forty-five seconds (and it only last’s for like twenty seconds). I think the whole Italian vibe is cute, but i just wish the song was better. (3.5/10)
The Blackest Day: Blackest Day, Terrence and God Knows I Tried are my definite top 3 from this album. I guess I’m just a sucker for sad songs, but the sadness of this song really gets to me and it makes me love the it even more. The lyrics are so stunning and her voice sounds breathtaking throughout the entire song. This is definitely one of the best songs of her entire discography. The “deeper and deeper” part is very pleasant, but the bridge is really where the song shines. I love the “I got you where I want you” part so much. That and the last 30 seconds are my favorite parts of the song. (10/10)
24: I have nothing good to say about this song. It is the weakest and worst song on the album. From the unpleasant crooning during the verses, to the horrendous production, this song just falls flat in every single way. Not even the lyrics can help it, because they are so atrocious. I didn’t really have expectations for this song, and I’m glad I didn’t. Because if I did, I would have been so letdown. I have no idea why she put this song on on the album, or why she even recorded it in the first place, but she did. And it’s really bad. (1/10)
Swan Song: I feel the same way about this song, as I feel about “24”. It’s just boring. The only thing that saves it are the chords during the chorus. (Also the strings, I really like the strings.) I honestly couldn’t even make it through the entire song, because it is so repetitive and I swear I almost fell asleep listening to it. (All though, in her defense, I was very tired and exhausted.) (2/10)
Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood: Not gonna lie, when I first head the intro, I thought this song was gonna be one of the “muddy-trap” inspired songs. But boy, was I let down. Aside from the fact that putting this song on the album was pointless, the fact that she didn’t even do it justice is what really upsets me. This song is one of my favorite Nina Simone songs, and I really thought that Lana was going to do this song really good, but she didn’t. And that’s why I’m gonna take back what I said about "24", and I’m gonna give the title of “weakest and worst song on the album” to this one. (0/10)
Overall Score: 68/100
