People who can't appreciate ballads <

Ballads can be good (T-ARA/Speed/Davichi's Painkiller, Turtle, 5Dolls Can You Love Me?, SunnyHill Pray, SoReal My Heart Says)

..But most are unremarkable songs marred by ridiculous vocal theatrics, nursery rhyme melodies for children, unimaginative production, or just being plain boring. Korea is really awful at ballads in particular as they see them as easy to write in as cafe shop filler and so we get 50 ballads a month from albums and OSTs that have the exact same sound.

But like...those carbon copy OST ballads are like their own genre in k-pop. There are plenty of excellent ones. The ones that Jack! mentioned, for starters, are all great. (Forever is a little bland if it's the one I think it is [SNSD] but it's still one of their more decent ones.)

I'm not arguing that Korea has a ballad problem, I just think it's weird to generalize all ballads when the ones that you're referring to are like...their own thing. You don't often find them on idols' albums, especially with big artists.

Correct. Forever remains my favourite SNSD ballad. Back Hug is cute too, but I have to be in the mood. Forever has a power to it I can't explain, I just love it.

And you guys know how I love to be really non-biased and subjective about everything (hihi) but for talkings sake, Sleepless Night, Selene 6.23 and Quasimodo could be some of the best ballads ever. Which is why it's frustrating the Odd ballads are kinda crap. Which got me thinking how every SM release this year has had a dud ballad, which was the origin behind my post.
