I love how people are freaking out over a song that was written specifically for a daytime talk show.
There is no indication from what I hear that it's going to be in the same vein as TTAL. It's going to be more broad and not as focused on love and stuff. She knows she's done two album in a row about life with Carey and she's not going to make it a strike.
I've noticed that most stans here are so upset over this new Ellen song.
Grenn-O even said that RCA won't let her release another M!ss. But my questions is...why should she? That type of record was done 14 years ago. She was a different person back then with lots of things to let off her chest.
She's become a mainstream pop artist. Some of you can't expect her to still be this alternative indie rock chick from the Try This era.

in terms of lyrical content: i am not against love stuff. shes been doing it since she started the game. but id love a healthy mix and maybe touch upon relationship problems that arent lmail/pdlm/hcynh.
and yeah people grow and change. thats why fh is my 3rd fav pink album. it was lyrically bittersweet which i loved.

And for someone whose influences are Janis, Queen, etc. it's quite surprising she keeps going the dated-sound route (Greg K., Max Martin). If anything, Adele's success... JGMAR - her biggest hit ever - should prove that she doesn't have to follow what's popular.

What you're expecting from a mainstream popstar (one of the most successful female artists of all time) doesn't line up with reality. If she wanted to make that kind of music, she would have done more of it. Since she ditched R&B, she's been mostly pop with hints of "rock", punk and other things.
The experimentation is allotted to album tracks, you may get your wish one day. But like I've said, word is the album isn't as love focused. So even if the music isn't a huge departure, which there's not really too much of a need, the lyrical themes will be different.
What's really important to pay attention to is this is her last album cycle before turning 40. She knows full well that her pop brand is nearing the end of its lifespan. While she's still among the most popular artist for teens and adults alike, that won't really last. Fergie and Gwen, 40 & 45, both last saw success in their 30's. Their most recent songs have done horribly. Madonna did well but she's Madonna. She was coasting off her past success. These days her copper has turned green. I fully believe that this era will be P!nk's unspoken way of wrapping up the pop girl side of her and moving back into a more left field area. I think she's been amazingly adept at balancing her artistic desires with commercial success and with that she wants to give it one last push. Look at what she said during the Rose Ave interviews, to quote loosely "I don't expect respect when I take my clothes off for a living." That's her way of saying that "I'm not going to be praised like I should be while I'm doing this." Which is true. She's halfway between pop puppet and Mozart. She gets praise for being a really talented pop star but she's rarely awarded for it. That mostly comes from a popularity contest thing. No matter how well she does, some other act gets more votes for a VMA or a "more serious artist" (read Adele) gets the Grammy award.
And that is the essence of why it is not only frustrating to be a P!nk fan, but P!nk herself. We know she's more talented than the other pop girls, she knows it and the industry knows it. But she's in this pop lane which is driven by likes and hype. See Lady GaGa, at the height of her fame and success it seemed like she won every award under the sun. Once that all went away, so did most of her award nominations and wins. It was all tied to her brand. She went more artistic with Tony Bennett and won a Grammy. Whether that was due to Tony always winning the category or to actual quality is up for debate. The reality is that she has set herself up for an amazing post-pop future. She'll have both the numbers and the cred to back her up for years to come. And that's the essence of why it's amazing being a P!nk fan

And for the people who said she keeps repeating herself musically and playing it safe since IND. Why y'all forget that we got Rose Ave? It was something entirely different and new. It was not a huge era but what you want from her would be all like RA: left-field means less success and Rose Ave. couldn't be more left-field. I just wish she won't make the same musical mistakes she did with Greg and TTAL.
