Mariah was nice to me at the Through the Rain video shoot.

Lemme explain.
I was 6, almost 7, and I had a dentist whose office was across the street from a large plaza on the corner of 40th and Park (google map ha). I used to play there all the time because I had a scooter I loved

Anyway, after my dentist appointment my mother took me to the plaza. That day the 40th street side was lined with huge trailers and trucks. There was a group of men there who said that there was going to be video shoot going on nearby. So of course my mom and I perched to see which celebrity came out of the trailers. I swear we were there for over two hours.

Sure enough, Mariah stepped out alone, and walked with two or three assistants to the corner. From across the plaza I screamed her name at the top of my lungs, and after the third or fourth "MARIAH!" she turned around, with a kind, pretty smile, and waved at me. THE Mariah wave. I was blown away.
This may sound conceited, but now that I know where she was at that point in her life and career (about to release her most personal single, video, and album on the heels of the breakdown and Glitter mess), I like to think that I made her happy, maybe just for that day or that shoot, and that she appreciated my 6 y.o enthusiasm. I'll always remember how utterly feminine (in the best way) and graceful she was.
