I don't think she looks dead in the mugshot (it's possible, but I don't think that's the case), but it's definitely off as if they treated her differently for some reason -- like, why was she not in regular clothing? When you're first processed into a jail, they immediately do mugshots upon arrival, then you're left in a holding area in plain clothes and you don't change until the magistrate decides if you can sign yourself out contingent upon promise to attend a scheduled court date or if you will be held until court. If you look at other mugshots from the Waller County system, there is NO ONE is photographed in the inmate jump suits. NO ONE. Something different took place in the process with her; when things are done out of order, it's fishy. This is way off -- almost like they held her and made her change prior to documenting her even being taken in; why?

And how would she have have even had access to a plastic bag inside of a cell to begin with -- much less hanged herself with one? In what jails do they keep giant mess hall sized trash bins inside of prison cells? Nothing about this makes sense and when things don't make sense, usually something being said isn't true. This screams of cover up and I'm glad this is being treated as a murder investigation because I think she was killed or died from injuries sustained out of excessive force or outright abuse.

Either way, this shouldn't have happened to her and she shouldn't have been there all because some cops ego couldn't take her not putting out a cigarette in her own vehicle when he said to do it. She didn't violate any laws by saying no and not following an order she wasn't required to follow. SMH this is so sad and it's so infuriating.

This sounds the most likely. That was some excessive brutality towards her as far as I can tell, and a lot of this suicide stuff does NOT make any sense (even going with the "she strangled herself with a super jumbo garbage bag" basis... Where did she GET said garbage bag?)

No, she couldn't suffocate herself with it. After losing too much oxygen her body would go completely unconscious causing her grip to loosen and the aphyxiation to, well, stop. That's why you hear of suicide by hanging and not suicide by "I strangled myself with a garbage bag"

As said, the theory of "she unintentionally died of excessive police brutality and they're trying to spin this" absolutely makes the most sense

The main issue I have with the suicide thing is where did she get a plastic bag strong enough to hang herself with it? I've heard of inmates using clothes or bed sheets, but a plastic bag?

So true. I really do think it's as you guys were saying earlier. She may have died due to complications of the force that was used on her.

The fact that police officers have the power to do things like this legitimately scares me Everything Sandra did during her interaction with the police officer (refusing to put out her cigarette, refusing to get out of the car when she wasn't being arrested, and then asking for the reason of her arbitrary arrest) were completely within her rights. The officer flat-out denied her of her legal rights, and it's scary that he is somebody who we're supposed to trust in enforcing the law. And the worst part about it is that after all of these police brutality incidents this past year, it seems like absolutely nothing productive is being done to fix any of this.

It's the explanation that makes the most sense based on the evidence we have, so it's the one I go with until I see a stronger one. Mainly because of the plastic bag stuff (the photo does seem off and there's interesting observations... But at the end of the day it's pretty flimsy evidence that would prooooobably get thrown out of court) FBI clearly thinks something is off too if they're investigating

The people saying the police did first degree murder on this girl make no sense, though. We pretty much have video evidence confirming that she got to that cell okay and no one went and killed her (correct?) Plus, it makes zero sense for them to murder her just cause

Here's the thing. I think people are confusing asphyxiation with hanging, and I'm talking about the media.

I've read a few articles on CNN where they say she hung herself, but the actual quote they include from law enforcement says "self-inflicted asphyxiation". The latter can be cause by hanging, but also by many other means.

Point being that from all I've seen, authorities have yet to say how exactly she died, but that it was due to asphyxiation. So for example, she may have only put the bag over her head and tied it. One of many ways Im sure...

I was about to say you can't asphyxiate yourself because you pass out and your grip loosens.... But I guess it's POTENTIALLY possible she could've tied it over her head and done that. Can you actually tie it enough to cut out all air circulation though? And it leaves the question of "Where'd she get the plastic bag?" I mean, those aren't lying around in jail cells

And yes inspiration4, that's true. Actually that's one of the main reasons why I'm 100% sure she's not deceased in that mugshot photo. I doubt her mouth would even be closed.
