I'm ready. Perfect way for Apple to clock Spotify.
If it's a publicity stunt, it's brilliant.

The naysayers need to read this:
Quote:
"Apple will pay royalties to music labels and publishers during the three-month free trial of its Apple Music streaming service, the company has confirmed, after protests from independent labels and musician Taylor Swift.
Independent label trade bodies in the US, UK, Germany, France and Australia spoke out against these plans in recent days, claiming that their members would be most at risk from any three-month blip in earnings if a large number of people buying music downloads from Apple’s iTunes store switched to the free trial.
“We struggle to see why rights owners and artists should bear this aspect of Apple’s customer acquisition costs,” claimed indie label group Beggars Group in a statement published on its website.
“As a whole the independent sector is a powerful voice in the music industry but its individual parts , the smaller labels particularly, cannot withstand such a potentially catastrophic drop in revenue,” added British indie trade body AIM in a statement sent out to its members."

Taylor speaking out was the last straw. They had been getting complaints from independent labels for a while.

The only reason you bring up my fave is because you have nothing to clock back. It's not like I don't stan for Taylor Swift, I just won't be delusional.

Why do that certain Navy member not understand that she pulled 1989 out of Apple Music as a protest, and put it back when Apple compromised?
It's a win-win situation for everyone, artists get paid, everyone gets 1989 on Apple Music, Apple gets money.

The heads of a huge corporation are exactly that: heads. They can make bold, quick, brash decisions like that.
If a request to change a policy came from lower ranks, it would probably have to work its way through red tape and multiple levels of management before someone at the top could make a decision.
If one of the VP's wakes up and says guys we need to discuss this ASAP you can get it done.
Apple is not one of those companies with BS internal relations and redtape. I'm sure their executive team is frank and candid and closely communicate with one another. That's one reason why they're so successful.

The money she would earn or not earn from her music being on the service and her not being paid for people listening under their 3 month trials.....that's so negligible to her and the millions upon millions she has. She's speaking out for artists that those checks do matter for.
For example:

the fact that taylor has gotten apple to change their policy today is an unbelievable moment and makes the music business feel connected
jackantonoff @jackantonoff 45m45 minutes ago
she so perfectly took a stand for working class song writers who need to be properly compensated for their work
jackantonoff @jackantonoff 44m44 minutes ago
I've been very lucky in my career - but for over 10 years I made almost no money and relied on my writers checks to live. it matters greatly
jackantonoff @jackantonoff 42m42 minutes ago
I'm so proud that the loudest voice in music today is using it to stand up for those who are not heard.
jackantonoff @jackantonoff 37m37 minutes ago
AND shout out to apple music for hearing this and correcting it

She's only speaking up for herself and her own pockets. If they decided to give indie bands 1/4 a penny more per stream than artists as big as taylor she would be writing sticky notes on tumblr crying about how unfair life is to her.

Sure, why not! When she posted that letter, it was 4 AM here! I live in Cupertino, where Apple is HQ'd and where a huge portion of their employees work and live.
Since they all live in relative proximity, they could've just met or facetimed. It's just one decision. Half an hour, forty-five minutes.
And of course Apple has contacts within the media.
Billboard and Buzzfeed probably reached out to Apple's PR right after Swift posted the letter first thing in the morning so they just responded to those requests and gave remote interviews. Those don't take very long. And god knows Billboard/Buzzfeed articles aren't journalistic masterpieces with days worth of writing + editing put into them. There are blogs that have better journalism than they do.
15 hours is a ton of time in this age. We are not in the pre-industrialized era anymore. Everything is literally instant. I'm typing this and you can read it in seconds! Technology is astounding.

Are you really suggesting that Apple executives met at 4 in the morning immediately and instantly jumped to listen to Taylor Swift's Tumblr demands? Give me a break.

This is all less than 10 days away from the critical launch of Apple Music. If this situation exploded, Apple Music would be off to a worse start than Tidal.
So yes, Taylor Swift, a young female musician, just single handedly forced the world's most powerful technology company to reverse course on a major financial decision for what will become the most popular streaming music service on earth, all in less than 24 hours. Her power is undeniable, and this is coming from someone who is not a fan.

Now with 1989 most likely being added to Apple, that's just even more streaming points for her chart positions

I don't know why your mentioning the Navy, when literally I'm the only navy in here saying this is a stunt. Don't generalize.

No. When did I say that?
Since it was 4 AM, that meant when they woke up they could immediately start thinking about it and respond to it. If the article was posted in the middle of the day here in California, they might've had to wait a day or two to respond. And no, they didn't instantly jump to listen, when did I say that also? They discussed.

This, my fellow ATRL posters, is an example of someone being blinded by their own bias against an artist and wanting any excuse to bash them.

Apple decided to change their protocol because of a tumblr post in a day, that's jumping instantly to it. Apple was always going to end up announcing their payment to indie artists from the beginning, whether Taylor was in on it or not. They were going to announce it. If you're familiar with Apple's history, then this is not that hard to believe.
