No. I get what she's saying and that it's her (and other newer artists') royalties on the line, but it comes across as the wrong way to me. It's like she's saying "I love and support Apple when I financially benefit from them, but since they're offering a 3 month trial, I think they need to redo their whole Apple Music policy ". Let's face it, she probably wouldn't have offered 1989 on Apple Music even if there was no trial.

I love Taylor, so i'm not trying to throw shade. However, this "letter" more or less screams, "I'm pressed cuz I'm not getting paid any more money, even though I'm one of the richest people in the world."

I agree with her, it's just funny coming from her because her music is not worth paying for.

Yes, she makes a very good point. I feel bad for the indie or lesser known artists who will not be paid for their plays. I love when Taylor speaks up about her views on the value of music. I agree with her a lot of the time.

Yeah, I love Taylor too, just not her decisions. She has her reasons but it seems like she is making too much of an effort to disguise that's it basically boils down to 1989 selling very well on iTunes and thus she doesn't want to lose revenue by being on AM.
I mean, get this. Instead of people buying her latest album, they could easily just sign up for the trial and listen to her songs for 3 months instead of buying the latest one, with no revenue for her. Do you really think she and her label would would allow this? If you don't give a customer options, they will end up buying your album - full price (assuming an honest one, not a pirate).

Which is totally your opinion. Don't state it as fact.

I respect her a lot for this decision and the letter. I think her having sold so many albums is a reason she should be saying something like this. It's just a lack of respect towards what she and others have accomplished (or are working towards) by not paying them.

Respectfully, you have just not been paying attention.

In a statement sent to Beggars’ labels, artists and managers, the group outlined their concern over the terms of a potential deal with Apple, and stated that they had not yet signed an agreement with the tech company. They also expressed worry over whether or not independent labels and the artists on their rosters would be treated as well as the industry’s three major labels and their artists.
“We are naturally very concerned, especially for artists releasing new albums in the next three months, that all streaming on the new service will be unremunerated until the end of September,” the statement read. “Whilst we understand the logic of [Apple’s] proposal and their aim to introduce a subscription-only service, we struggle to see why rights owners and artists should bear this aspect of Apple’s customer acquisition costs.” Beggard Group includes labels XL, Rough Trade, Young Turks, Matador and 4AD in the UK.

Indie labels trade body AIM's spokesman said the following
Quote:
“As a whole the independent sector is a powerful voice in the music industry but its individual parts , the smaller labels particularly, cannot withstand such a potentially catastrophic drop in revenue,
Apple has always been a valued partner to the music industry but this decision to withhold income from the independent music sector is against the spirit of collaboration that we have come to expect from them.
Each individual member of AIM must, of course, make their own decision whether or not to sign this agreement, but many members have already expressed very real concerns about the consequences of doing so, hence our communication to the whole membership.
It is AIM’s view therefore that, in its present form, this agreement sadly does not meet a standard of commercial fairness that we can endorse.

We would have dealt with it if Taylor didn't start bitching and removing her entire catalog from Spotify.

I love Tay but this just screams that she just wants money herself tbh.
Do you seriously think that if Apple turned around today and said that they'd pay artists during the 3 month trial period, she'd agree to have 1989 on Apple Music? I seriously doubt it.
She wants dem sales.

You guys have to also remember that just because the labels get a cut from the free trial, doesn't mean the artists get a decent cut.
