I don't get it either tbh. Like have you guys seen cows? They're adorable!
I admittedly fall on and off the meat-eating wagon (and I feel guilty af every time) but there are people commenting in here who probably haven't even tried to go a day without a piece of chicken sliding down their throats! What did chickens ever do to you that they deserve to be eaten while dogs aren't?

Thank you
I admit I am western but I have many friends from this part of China that I grew up with so I am fully informed about this. Everything in here is grossly blown out of proportion or just dead wrong. And yeah if it wasn't a dog but an animal that we eat normally then it would not be a problem

Only stupid people in China eat dogs, but then there are a lot of stupid people in that country.

And I live in Australia - we are world leaders in animal welfare & have amazing sources for meat where the animal actually gets to live a free-range, non-factory life. Not to mention, we aren't boiling them alive.
Like I said, not trying to change people's traditions, just because I disagree with it. But we CAN and should attempt to change the process to make it more ethical.
|
This is such a slippery slope though. I mean, what's next, going to tribes in Tanzania and telling them that they're not killing their goats ethically?
If it's not a human rights issue, then people should mind their own business. At one point in America, "inhumane" treatment of animals was normal. American society changed, not due to intervention from other countries, but due to a shift in opinions OF American people. Let THEM deal with their own culture in their own ways.

Chinese people also eat Rhino and Tiger parts because according to their traditions it's good for their health too. So is that all good? Because it's a tradition right?

And you cant compare the Yulin fest to Western methods of meat production.. Whilst we are working to strive for better quality of life for our animals bred for produce, most as far as we are aware dont get boiled, skinned and cramped in tiny cages (minus the battery hens, which is absolutely terrible for that matter)
|
Not because theres countries (developed countries) that have good method of meat production that doesnt mean there isnt other countries that still kill cows/pigs/chicken in a way that can be seen as hurtful and bad for the animals, yall are so blinded.

Ok, we know we eat chiken and whatever, but are we going to add killing and eating every thing that moves?
Why don't they eat sht? I bet they're not THAT stupid, right?
Killing cows and chikes is not okay, understood, but are we going to defend the dog massacres just 'cause we eat chiken and cows.
|
I see your point, but i'm sure everyone who's saying "That's not a valid argument" doesn't share the opinion that killing all animals is wrong. My question was mainly directed to the ones who don't think twice about the killing of cows and chickens for eating.
But, i do see your point. And i agree with you.

No, they do not steal dogs from homes, they mostly eat stray dogs. And Yulin is only a tiny city, so let's not make it a more prevalent tradition than it is.
By the way, has Taylor spoken yet? Leona Lewis mentioned her in a tweet on the festival.

I'm so sick of this culture over animal rights bull ****. I don't give a **** about your culture if you're gonna torture or kill animals inhumanely. I HATE western animal meat farming as well but it's at least more humane than what goes on in other countries.

Yes, it is. Every country does this ****. We have Native groups in the US who eat things that anybody outside of the groups wouldn't understand. If people can go hunting and kill deer just for fun, I don't see the problem with the Chinese eating dogs for food.

Wow you are...
So it's okay if Rhino's and Tiger's go EXTINCT just so some people can THINK they feel healthier. RIGHTO.

It's not really stray dogs either but yes they do NOT steal dogs from homes that's a bunch of bs. And good point about not all of China doing it because not all of China believes in that

How so?
There are 20 chickens crammed into one tiny cage in some places.

You guys don't like it, because in our/your country, eating dogs isn't a normal thing. However, if it was, then it wouldn't be a problem to you. Or, most of you don't like it because dogs are "cute" (and they are) but that doesn't justify being biased on the topic.
