Old people, like old things in general, are cool. They’re survivors. They were here when _________ (whatever "when" may be) and they're still here.
This old building was here when women couldn't vote. They looked at the same building I'm looking at. They touched the same building I'm touching. The building connects me to them and to all this past history, like a bridge between the years, the decades, the centuries.
Same with old people. This person took a bus with black people having to sit in the back, and went to see Singing in The Rain in theaters...and now he's talking to me. Through him I have a connection to the past.
Like, Madonna connects us to a time when you could easily steal from blacks and gays without anyone screaming cultural appropriation.
All this talk of old people reminds me: I need to finish Prime Suspect. **** you Netflix for taking it off InstantWatch.
