Hormones don't change your actual voice but they do affect how you develop during puberty and so how your voice will change which is probably why he was confused. They're gonna have no effect on your voice if you've already went through puberty as a male but there's no need to act like smart-asses acting like it's common knowledge or something when he was just asking a question
