I Get Lonely is one of the Top R&B Airplay singles of all times. Billboard didn't count R&B Airplay back in 1998 thats the only reason Janet didn't get #1 on the HOT 100 with that track. It also spent an amazing 69 weeks on the R&B Airplay chart.

That is correct. R&B airplay was added at the same time album tracks without singles started charting on the Hot 100. All of the other formats were added at the beginning of the 1999 Chart Year too, except for Latin, which was added in January 2000.

"Come Back To Me" is my favorite song by Janet Jackson, Also, that single made a huge pre-Soundscan jump on the Hot 100, vaulting up from 93-44, in its second week on the chart when it won Airplay Gainer.

That was the biggest jump on the Hot 100 since the 1970s. Band-Aids "Do They Know Its Christmas?" made the biggest jump of the 1980s, from 65-20.

Those jumps look normal now, but before Billboard implemented electronic tracking of sales and airplay, big jumps like that were much less common.

How were R&B and Country songs able to be big hits before 1998? Granted that R&B singles used to sell like hotcakes, most of their airplay had to come from urban formats. Something like "Freak Like Me" by Adina Howard (or just just R&B songs in general) had to be a huge Rhythmic hit.
