You are right about the album sales. In some way, you still did comparison before buying albums though. For tour ticket which is much more expensive, people needs more information, once again, I still insist that one of the major goals of tour is promoting the next album which is not released yet, this theory only applies to artists with longevity though. Spotify's theory is BS, they provide music for free, so why people need to buy?
Edit: Tidal's idea of HQ is kind of on point but with wrong pricing strategy, too high, I think that's why Taylor did NOT involve. The next one with the same idea can lower the price in HQ to win the competition, then find profit (which is hard) in the other sections.
Edit2: I think the real future of streaming is keeping streaming services for the fans and adding sales agents functionality for the artists, it is possible for WIN-WIN, just never win on the others' expenses.
Edit3: When your goal is providing free streaming all the time (Edit4: In order to get more users), no matter how you switch, or what kind of excuses, it's on the expenses of artists (including songwriters, singers etc)...and it is NOT right.
