They're both vapid, shallow, and money hungry, I won't deny that.
I will also admit K-Pop takes it influences from Western pop music.
However, it's a sad state of affairs when countries who took their musical influences from you are doing it better. K-Pop is very performance oriented, so seeing amazing live performances from K-Pop acts is a common occurrence, unlike in the states when people see Gaga and go "Wow! That's amazing!

" because Gaga was the first act in a long time to actually have interesting performances and talent that showed.
I can admit that the whole process of putting groups together is extremely manufactured, but it's not like the people who are in these groups are only in it for the money and could care less about what the final product is as long as the money comes in. Yes, that's the company's goal, but the artists themselves have a lot of drive and passion (which they need, since they get ****** ends of the bargain most of the time.)
The difference is that both the label and the artists themselves are money-minded in the US, which is why the quality is so low and music feels generally uninspired.
