Like imagine if straight marriage was illegal for hundreds of years and frowned upon in most states and gay marriage was the norm. Then all of a sudden there was a party who supported straight marriage for the first time in history. You're telling me that your dad wouldn't vote for them based on that fact alone. Get the **** outta here.
If I lived in the USA I would be voting Democrat regardless. Hillary video for President is the first in history to ever feature a gay couple. I don't need to hear anything else from her. She has my vote.

If there were other things that mattered more, then no. If I was earning $500k a year then the tax breaks afforded with marriage mean little. Hospital vistation rights mean nothing because I'd have private insurance where I can do whatever I want. Employment discrimination means nothing because at that earning level you're in control of whatever you're doing. So no, even if it remained illegal, if it didn't actually help your life compared to what might hurt your bottom line if you voted for the other side (say, if that $500k you earn would turn into $300k thanks to a new tax distribution), most people would still vote for the party that was trying to keep it illegal. People are selfish.
Going back to my own story, I would honestly rather have my family making half a million a year but without the right to marry than having the right to marry but making half of that. The education, employment and lifestyle (health, where I live, travel, etc) opportunities available with a much higher income would make my life a lot better than the chance of being able to get married. Like, let's be realistic. The gay community is so sexualized and relationships can be so hard to maintain becuase of the pervading culture of "get as much sex as you can and never settle down" that most gay people aren't even going to end up reaping the benefits of gay marriage.
