So I don't drink, and because of that, I often miss references to drinking in songs.
I thought for years that in Migrate she said: "Trying to get us out on that patrol." And I always wondered why MC and her friends would be in the club dancing and suddenly would be on guard duty and have to go outside to patrol the streets
Whitney always talked positively about Mariah in interviews prior to them collaborating. She talked about how Mariah could sing in 1991 on the Aresnial Hall I believe.
I know about the Arsenio interview. I didn't say they shaded each other or anything and it may very well be something that only I see/feel but prior to WYB, it felt like there was an awkwardness when they were asked about one another.
I still at the fact that people STILL want to pit them against each other.
And I really get annoyed by the Ariana comments on Mariah's videos on YT. Mariah was and still is an AMAZING vocal technician. I've never heard anyone flow through melisma with such skill. Her riffs and runs are second to NONE.And I haven't heard a singer yet who was as skilled as Mariah. Her range, power, and her sense of pitch are just unrivaled.
These girls are poor vocal technician TOUCHING 6th octave notes and getting praise annoys me.
This is what annoys me. Like any time someone screams/squeaks a bit up there, they start with the unwarranted praise and bs comparisons to Mariah.
Do any of you think Mariah ever considered nodule surgery?
Part of me feels like she may have but after what happened to Juile Andrews in 1997 (of all years), she said to hell with it.
She probably has considered it. But wasn't she born with the nodules? My heart always pains for Julie tbh. I mean she's a legend and is still respected and still had a great career after but singing wasn't her everything like it is for Mariah.

what happened to Julie?
Bjork has removed her nodules too and she still sounds great

I don't know if she was born with them or has had them since she was small but it's safe to say she's had them for at least 40 years. I have said this before but I am still stunned that she can still actually talk much less sing the way she does. And I think that really speaks to her technical abilities

So I know y'all were talking about Whitney and MC before, and then the good sis Latinazza alerted me to this video of her performing VOL on GMA in 1990. It's been my favorite perf of VOL for a while, but I never saw this clip on YouTube with the interview part before!
The eye roll at 1:32
ALSO, this is in July 1990 and the guys calls her 20 SEVERAL times and she doesn't correct him IT'S PROOF SHE WAS BORN IN 1970!
Thank you so much for posting this performance. I had never seen it before and it really just STUNNED me. The piano, her vocals, her energy, her look, her elegance, her hand choreography – I have no words for my astonishment and my love for her.

I am having sort of a positive bathroom floor moment right now!!!
I simply can't get over her vocal variation and control, her sheer noblesse and her eloquence in the interview
I was slayed when I first saw it. It was a low quality b&w version though.
Seeing it like this makes it so much better. I love the improv her and that one bg singer do at the end

Amazing performance! I love how uncertain she was about everythingbut she's always, always emphasized that she's a songwriter. I cant believe she's still fighting that battle.
