and this is a perfect example as to why it's not right to compare Jhene and The Weeknd with TInashe

she's being pushed to be this major act up there with the big girls...Abel and Jhene aren't seeking it like she does

she also has a song on the Mockingly soundtrack...her promo this past year has probably alread overshadowed Abel and Jhene's career promo combined

There are some similarities between Rihanna and Tinashe, but I don't think they're intentional. Like I don't see Tinashe setting herself up for the Rihanna comparison. But really, a lot of Tinashe's work is focused. Like put Tinashe's mixtapes and one album up against Rihanna's discography, and Tinashe already has a more cohesive body of work. What I fear for Tinashe is that she will be forced to abandon her sound for mainstream. You can already notice the difference now, but luckily her new mixtape still shows remnants of that passion.

She's not just "holding a note," she's singing (and annunciating). Just give props where they're due. Not everyone strives to be a Whitney Houston or a Mariah tribute act.

I feel like she can do both. She clearly wants to be mainstream, I don't know why she wouldn't at least TRY to get some hits. Like she signed to a major for a reason.

The Weekend's promo was Love Me Harder. A guy from their label told Billboard the collab was no accident and that the label pushed them to collab, then released the song to create hype for him. That + a song on one of the biggest movies of the year's soundtrack is great promo.

What promo did The Weeknd need besides the phenomenon 50 Shades of Grey, being on a song with Ariana Grande produced by Max Martin, etc.?

The Weeknd found a niche following with his mixtapes, but he still was an unknown to the general public. My point was that Tinashe doesn't have to take off NOW. it's just that her stuff isn't resonating now. If she was in the right place at the right time and she takes another route, she too can be successful. It took Jhene like ten years LITERALLY to even get to where she's at.

before that...his biggest promo was Crew Love which didn't even get a video

The Weeknd will have a breakout year this Fall when he drops his next album and he deserves it. Often, Earned It >>>>>>

All he needs is a strong follow up at Pop for Earned It.

I also think he will win the Oscar if nominated and Grammy for Best R&B song.

Tinashe is a professional singer, she gets paid to sing. You would assume that a professional singer is one of the best of the best, no? I'm not saying she's awful but I honestly feel she's average. She doesn't even sing live half of the time. How am I supposed to consider herself a good singer when even she doesn't..

Also non enunciating Ariana slays her effortlessly.
