Ok first of all the performance by Essie Davis is amazing, she did such a good job at potraying a grieving wife and mother who has a problem with her child.
I loved that it showed that kids can be assholes, and that parents can hate them in a way. It was DEFINITELY well written. It's minimalistic with it's choice of words but says so much about loss and recovery.
The directing is amazing as well, the shots are very classic and timeless, and the coloring is amazing as well.
And it's one of the scariest movies of the past 5 years. You probably love jump scares and cheap thrills, but this is a genuinely scary movie because it deals with ourselves and we are faced with it. The things the Babadook represents and how they played with it are so well done and the design of the book is insane.
You will noT shade this horror masterpiece on my watch. You probably think The Strangers is better than You're Next as well.
