couple of comments:
Funhouse was released 1 month before Circus;
Funhouse sold half a million more than Circus ww already and even though it was released before Circus, is selling double the amount of Circus on weekly basis right now.
You're right, quality of songs are a matter of taste, but obviously more people prefer Funhouse and if Critical reviews are any indicator, Funhouse has better reviews.

I think he meant WW on the sales...Not that this matters or relevant to the topic..
As far as the Pop/Rock issue, Pink is clearly not just a Pop artist, just just a mix.
maybe on the overall she got more pop oriented song/singles but that doesn't make her just a pop singer.
She got alot of rock oriented songs and even some R&B oriented songs.
Overall, if there's a singer out of the 3 (Avril, Pink and Britney) you could actually say she's not a mostly a pop singer than it's Pink.

thanks. right on the point. But I think what Britney fans wanted to do is just to add even more drama here and make Avril fans come in here and say something negative about P!nk.
FAIL again.

My mistake about the time - Still, you are wrong as well, since Funhouse came out on the last week of October and Circus on the first week of December. In the end it had 5 weeks more of sales during the last quarter of the year, aka biggest period for album sales everywhere. That said, 500k is not that much more, but that's MY opinion.
I haven't had time to read critics lately, but I must say 'professional' critics are still people. They are entitled to have different opinions, and I have the right to disagree, just like you. By that I mean I don't think their opinion is more important than yours or mine. Critical reviews also doesn't equal bigger sales. Blackout, for instance, had many great reviews and still barely sold 2.5 million worldwide.
Just something more: albums need promotion to sell these days, more than ever before. Many established artists choose to focus on their tours to make money instead of taking more time to help the album sell. That's what Britney did... And I'm not sure about talk shows etc, but from what I saw on televisioned awards, Pink did a hell lot more promotion in the US and worldwide than Britney did.

Some of her songs from her past albums, especially Try This. But then again, that's my opinion, lol.

by increasing the differences in time between the releases of Funhouse and Circus you are doing a favor to P!nk by emphasizing her longevity. Cause she's selling her album like hotcakes even now after more than 6 months since the release.
I was skeptical about critics as well. They are just regular people, but than I came to realize that they are also trained professionals, and while the tastes differ, they have a unique eye for catching all the interesting trends and uniqueness in the albums/songs. Its like, you wouldn't want to go to a movie that got lackluster reviews, or would like to listen to the album that has amazing reviews. Just my two cents.

now I will comment on your edit to your post, concerning the promotional activities:
yes P!nk did promote the songs at couple of shows, but you have to agree that she's not the type of artist who is in the yellow press everyday. While Britney is in show biz news every second - whether for music-related, or non-music related activities. Thus she stays in people's minds 24/7 and thats whats really selling the albums.

Lets not even mention that Brit wasn't in the Top 40 for some weeks, Pink top 25-28 all 25 weeks.

Yeah, Britney stays in people's minds 24/7, but that's cause she's obviously more famous thank Pink. Being on the media 24/7 doesn't sell albums - Do I have to bring up Blackout one more time? To sell music you have to promote music. It's unbelievable how some people still don't get that.
As for the first post, already said what I think about critics. Moving on: I never said Pink's album doesn't have more longevity than Britney's (although her 3rd single is just now starting to enter the charts, and that's something to be considered) - I thought we were talking about sales? And hotcakes? LOL, again, opinions...

DEAD at 'Top 28'.
And once again, not talking about longevity. Some people just can't understand.

this makes me question the quality of Blackout. Even if being on people's minds 24/7 couldn't help the album not to flop, than it had to be really.....lets say not that good. and also, maybe Britney is not performing in that many shows, because she knows that her performances can make people to refuse to buy her albums? (2007 VMAs performance anyone?)
and are you really happy about the fact that Britney is more famous than P!nk in a such way (boulvard news?). I wouldn't wish P!nk to stay in the news constantly for some crazy things she does.

I agree. A lot of Britney fans (Not saying any of you here) boast about how she's always on the publics mind. Its really silly and crazy IMO. I would hate for my fave to be in the news for some of the things that have happened to Britney. It brings the point up are they rooting for her or for her status.

Anywayz, LMFAO at the 'rock' discussion. Anyone outside ATRL knows Pink is far from being a ROCK singer. She's Pop/Rock, and that's being nice, since her stuff, especially her singles, consists of Pop songs. Pink may be more of a 'rock' singer than people like Avril Lavigne, but that still doesn't change the fact that she is POP.
|
I didn`t say she is rock either, she is everything but pure pop/rock. U cant label her as pure pop/rock. She`s done everything!

LOL, way to change the subject, huh? Anywayz, make up your mind about the critics; when it's for Pink, it's important, when it's for Britney, it isn't? Oh, my.
Oh, and saying Britney is more famous than Pink ONLY because of her 2007/2008 troubled year just makes me think you're a bit bitter, and, one more time, deluded. Check the last 10 years timeline, my friend, check the tours numbers, check the album sales, check the awards, and you'll see why Britney Spears is more famous than Pink.
That was my last post on what concerns this matter. You can continue if you want. Oh, you too, MrDeeds.
P.S.: LMFAO at the VMA 2007 comment. You really are a sad and envious person. Oh, wait, maybe you're just THAT dumb?

Yes Britney is more famous than P!nk, but SO WHAT P!nk`s still a rockstaaaa
P!nk is underrated, always been, always will. After like 9 years of rocking carrer people are like "WOW, i didn`t know she could sing THAT good". I mean WTF?? Im always pissed at that!

sorry but your post made minimal sense whatsoever. what topic change? were we talking about something else? I thought we cleared everything out with critics. and as always, you Britney fans are referring to old times when Britney was seling albums, you need a good reality check. Now its 2009 and she doesn't sell much anymore. P!nk is selling much more records right now period.
and what about my VMA comment? do you think that it convinced somebody to buy the album?
