Idg why artists do it for Lead Singles period. Like, the major ones -- Katy, Rih, Bey, Gaga, etc will always have the radio release and deal lined up the day it drops.

What exactly is the point of trying to throw the single to fend for weeks on it's own without radio support, and risking it being dead by the time adds roll & then flopping at radio.

They're big pop girls, people hype their singles. No one knew Carly was releasing a new song besides her fans.

Still "any" girl can't just do it. There are still components to the chart. Only 3 pop girls have pushed 400-500k+ debuts in recent years (Britney, Katy, Taylor). They would need sales cause not every chick will boast 100 million impressions by end of one week. So that eliminates everyone but Katy/Taylor. Britney is up in the air. Womanizer and HIAM were both digital records during their time, she couldn't do it now I'm sure though.

You are right, Nicki would've got #1.. but just like there are literally 2-3 who can pull the sales, what else besides Anaconda and Wrecking Ball has come in shattering streaming numbers?

Rih could drop a song and video but she'd probably release it on a Thursday afternoon, video would be blocked everywhere but US and song not on Spotify with the way she's done things so she's not an option.

And we know Gaga ain't coming back until 2017 so.

Taylor, Katy & Ariana are the only pop girls currently capable of a #1 debut imo. Katy is kind of up in the air for next era, though, but it could go either way.

I think Ariana's next lead has a strong likelihood of doing it - Problem had the position within its grasp. And then Taylor is a guarantee.
