After coming tantalisingly close to becoming only the second song in a year to accumulate an audience in excess of 100m in a week, Ellie Goulding's Love Me Like You Do suffers a big dip in audience - from 99.98m to 78.32m - even as it enjoys a third week atop the radio airplay chart.
The track is being played nearly as much as it ever was, with its tally of plays on the Radio Monitor panel last week easing 1.33% from its peak of 7,220 to 7,124 but its 21.67% audience loss can be largely attributed to a sudden and almost complete desertion of the song by Radio 2. It was the station's most-played song with 18 spins earning an audience of 24.21m in the previous frame, but it aired the track just three times last week, exposing it to just 4.95m pairs of ears. Sister station Radio One actually upped support for the track from 26 to 27 plays, more than any other song. It provided a top 19.46% share of the tracks audience along the way, although a massive 108 stations aired it more often, with a ceiling of 65 plays provided by no fewer than 15 stations, including The Hits Radio, Fire Radio and JACKfm2.
Two songs enter the radio airplay Top 10 for the first time - Kelly Clarkson's Heartbeat Song pulses 13-7, simultaneous with its debut at No.7 on the OCC chart, while When The Beat Drops Out, which explodes 32-10 has already been a massive European hit for Londoner Marlon Roudette. Heartbeat Song is up 29.01% from 2,961 to 3,820 plays in the week, while its audience grows 32.33% from 33.99m to 44.98m. 16 plays on Radio One provided 21.06% of its audience, while it had a top tally of 55 plays from Fire Radio, followed by 48 a piece from 13 others, mostly stations in Bauer's new 3 network.
