Same could be said for Aretha Franklin these days. Also, her looks have nothing to do with it. Kelly, when at her best, can be a really cute southern chick.
When you're a mainstream artist, who you work with is as important to your image as how you present yourself.
Nate Ruess, the lead singer from the band fun., didn't initially want to sing with a pop star like P!nk. He was unsure of how his band would react. He was okay writing the song and collecting the checks for that but it took P!nk months of badgering for him to sing on the track. Even once it was said and done he didn't act like he cared much for the song until it started slaying.
If he had stuck to his gut he would have been a 1 hit wonder. Now he can forever claim one of the biggest songs of 2012 and 2013
I think with "crap" artists she meant singers who raped people, are racist or problematic in general, not anything related to the quality of their works. Y'all do to much on her

If she means producers, her humility is incredibly refreshing but it's also symbolic of her larger problem in a very cutthroat, increasingly political game that is the industry. She needs to be more aggressive, know what she wants and distinguish herself from the rest.
Heartbeat Song isn't stand-out pop-rock like the Breakaway era. If she wants to stay in the pop game she needs music that will get played on radio and stand apart from P!nk, Demi, Katy, and Taylor, etc.

Aretha is 72 years old. She's had a career for 50+ years. Has loads of classics under her belt, and is widely considered one of the most legendary and influential female artists of all time not to mention she's arguably the most influential vocalist of the RnRoll era. Where does she have anything to do with Kelly besides the fact that she's one of Kellys idols
Good she has an amazing voice and talent, and a collaboration often takes away from that. There just seems to be something a little less credible about the success of a collaboration, too much of a novelty.
