Sorry, I'm a bit late but here's my votes:
OFF
7. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: 5/10
I feel responsible for this. I mean, you obviously had some extra minutes and I was surprised you sent it that fast but I didn't even read it to tell you anything, so I am completely sorry
2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: 7,5/10
I enjoyed your essay division. 'I Get Lonely' is a great song, very relaxing but then contrasts with some sad lyrics. My problem with your essay was that I felt like in the first part you were talking about what was good in general, I mean what the majority of her audience, prefers and only when talking about 'Can't Be Stopped', you assumed it was about you. I was a bit confused there. Besides that, I felt like you had a lot of things to say about the first song and only the 'filler' argument for the second one. As for the songs, you got it right when it comes to 'I Get Lonely', such a classic Janet song, impossible to go wrong but I wouldn't exactly call 'Can't Be Stopped' a filler but then again, it's about your taste.
SAVE
5. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: 8,25/10
Your essay was on point. I liked your division of ideas and how you really separated both tracks from being the best and the worst. I'll be honest and say I really enjoyed 'Wake Up' but I don't know the album and I am not exaclty judging your opinion here so I'll just have to believe you. Nice job!
Honorable Mention:
4. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: 8/10
Let me start by saying that your introduction was marvelous, I just loved it and, sadly for you, it took some quality from your actual explanation of songs... But nothing is lost. Eventhough I disliked your presentation of the first song, I enjoyed the second one... It reminded me of when Chill Bill talked about a Beatles song and it was so bad and he was so right! But in this came, 'Psalms Alive' is not that bad... What I enjoyed the most was the common point between songs.

Firstly, let me sum up my thoughts about this round:
1. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Teen Heat || Goldmine – 4/10
Teen Heat is a bit better than Goldmine, but both songs are on the same level to me, which is somewhere between bad and ok. I don’t know Kimbra’s album, but judging by the songs you’ve sent so far in the game, I’m pretty sure you had better options to pick as the best song on the album.
2. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: I Get Lonely || Can't Be Stopped – 9/10
I love I Get Lonely, I’m not sure if it’s the best song on the album, but it sure is one of. Can’t Be Stopped doesn’t go anywhere, I agree with you when you say it’s a filler. It doesn’t add anything to the album, good choice!
3. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Turn Me Up || Beautiful (feat. Justin Bieber) – 6.5/10
The obvious best song on the album is Call Me Maybe, but I guess you couldn’t use it again. Turn Me Up is ok, too generic and forgettable; if you wanted to choose a dance-pop catchy song, you should’ve gone with Tonight I’m Getting Over You, the second best song on the album. Now, Beautiful is AWFUL, nothing in this song works, neither Justin Bieber nor Carly, I wish I could unlisten this trash.
4. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: March To The Sea || Psalms Alive – 3/10
Psalms Alive is a mess, such a bad song indeed. However, I don’t see how March To The Sea can be the best in anything. You’ve sent way better songs in this game, so I’m sure you had better options to pick as the best song on the album.
5. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Learn || Wake Up – 10/10
I think the obvious choice here would be You Oughta Know, but you couldn’t use it again. That didn’t stop you to pick an amazing substitute, You Learn is such a great song, love the lyrics! I totally agree with what you said about Wake Up, it adds nothing new, it drags on forever, I just wanted it to end so I could press play again on You Learn.
6. Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Empire || Chasing Shadows – 10/10
I loooove Empire, great choice! Chasing Shadows isn’t a bad song, but it has never been my favorite, I never got why it’s one of the best songs on the album for a lot of people. That being said, I think I would’ve chosen “That Way” as the worst song, but your essay is really good, you sold your choices well!
7. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Competition || Towers – 1/10
I was so happy to have you back in the game, but you completely misunderstood the challenge. Maybe it was the excitement of being back + the little time you had to put the entry together, but still, there’s nothing I can do for you here: your essay isn’t about what the challenge required and you picked 2 great songs, if at least you had picked one good and one bad song I’d have given you some points for that. I’m so sorry to give you this score, but I have to be fair!

I feel like you could've done a better contrast beyond just "this is why this is good and this bad". Like you explored so much of Teen Heat only to just toss Goldmine in the trash without much expansion on it.
6.5/10
2. Luigi - The Velvet Rope
When we're talking about your opinion on something, it's never a good idea to mention critics and fans' opinions because you don't have those facts. It would've been better without that added in.
5.5/10
3. MusicLoverDude - Kiss
It was smart comparing Beautiful to another song of better quality because your explanation is a bit lackluster. With that though, it's a weird contrast with Turn Me Up representing the sound of the album and Beautiful being more folksy.
7/10
4. Bloomers - Yellow & Green
This was an excellent comparison. You stated how they are similar and pointed out the key differences that set them on opposite sides of the spectrum. Perfect.
10/10
5. Capital B - Jagged Little Pill
It's a solid comparison. One has strong lyrics that hit on an emotional level and the other offers nothing new that the album hasn't done before therefore putting it under certain other songs in terms of quality.
8/10
6. Pedro - Shakira
I like how you took a similarity and explored how they are very different. It's very you and related to strictly your criteria and it shows how well you know her music.
10/10
7. VDK - Salute
This is really messy. I don't see any explanations of how either is better or worse than the other.
1/10

This essay was another lackluster one from you, sadly. I thought your "worst" song was better than your "best" song and your argument as to why this song was the best did not convince me. I know you can do better.
2. Luigi - 8.8/10
Those hidden tracks truly can be great or terrible! I honestly can't remember what your worst song sounds like a few hours later, which definitely justifies your argument as to that being the worst track! It's so dull. I Get Lonely was good and your explanation was solid albeit nothing outstanding.
3. MusicLoverDude - 9.3/10
I absolutely agree with your choices! One is a bop and the other is cringeworthy. This time, your essay was a little difficult to follow. It didn't flow very well. If you survive this round, you will need to work on tightening up your writing to get to the next level.
4. Bloomers - 10/10
This was the best entry for me this round! Concise. Great language. Descriptive. And the songs were well chosen. Well done!
5. Capital B - 10/10
I think this addressed the challenge quite well! You Learn is great, and the other song (I honestly don't remember its name because I'm typing this on mobile) was not very memorable or interesting. Your essay was solid, and I think you are back!
6. Pedro - 9.5/10
I think the choices were spot on. Chasing Shadows was so bad in my opinion. I like the angle from which you approached this challenge and it was a good basis for your argument. I wish you included a few more details about why the songs were good or bad but what you gave was pretty satisfactory.
7. VDK - 5/10
Ughhhhh this was such a well done essay. And those two songs are great IMO. I wish you had stuck to the challenge criteria. Unfortunately the rules are rules. I'm glad you got a second chance at least! You slayed me this season.

A classic case of fans being disappointed with their favorite artist's work because it doesn't come directly from them. Shakira having much input into her previous works, her fans got to know her on a personal scale as she penned and sang about her life. Having another songwriter on Shakira seemed like a step backward, even hopping on the trend of incorporating the acclaim Sia onto the album, which most of her peers did as well. It was a very wise decision to choose tracks that she didn't write as the best and worst, as it makes the comparison of 'personality' more apparent. Empire showcases the typical lyrics of love that you would expect from Shakira, the vocals are at the same time soft and daring, and the instrumentation anthemic - all elements that you should expect on her album and therefore serves as an overview. Although not penned by her, you cannot see a trace of the songwriters on the song because it is so distinctive and feels more like a Shakira stand-alone track. On Chasing Shadows however, Sia failed to take out her personality and instead of putting her own touch to the song, Shakira sang it with the same tone and style that Sia would. It is good to experiment with vocals, but in this case, it was just an imitation of Sia, and it feels so cut off from what we expect from the album. Your explanation for the best and worst track were equally strong, although it took some time to get to the point. Also, I would have liked if you explained the 'adjustments were needed' part because I think it would have made the 'worst' explanation a lot more stronger. |
 | Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Teen Heat || Goldmine
Kimbra has been notable for her experimental abilities through her vocals and sounds, and it may be best showcased on Teen Heat. Wisely penned, the whole lyrical text can either be perceived as taking a stand to break free, or the most obvious sexual interpretation. Even though she draws a 3D portrait of herself, she reveals a side of her which is hard for most people to do. Such honesty is most often appreciated from artists and makes the listeners associate to the song, as well as the singer more. To correlate with the content, not only does the instrumentation accompany it perfectly, but her voice depicts the blissful liberation of the verses, the wonder of the pre-chorus, and the rough passion of the chorus, making this track worthy of an ear if we want a teaser of what to expect on The Golden Echo. This great wording however cannot be said about all the tracks, as Goldmine seems to be a product of lazy writing with its repetitive chorus and weak narrative that leaves route for not much relatable interest. Although the instrumentation is disputable, it is overshadowed by Kimbra's inert vocals which drags on for the entire song, making it even harder to make a connection. The best track was well explained, and just like how you mirrored Teen Heat's story with how the singer represents it, I wish you could have done the same with Goldmine to better show the coldness and how it translates into an emotional distance. You did not even mention 'Goldmine' in your second paragraph and I think that a balance of length between the good and the bad would have been a better presentation. |
 | MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Turn Me Up || Beautiful (feat. Justin Bieber)
A case of having certain expectations for an album, and being greeted by unwanted songs because of their sound. Jepsen released Tug of War in 2008 with a darker sound, but very few fans of the breakthrough single Call Me Maybe knew that. Instead, they anticipated an album full of bright pop gems, only to discover some of her old musical roots on Kiss. Beautiful is a nice-sounding stripped down track, but unlike Your Heart Is A Muscle, it is so out of place because of its different genre, and ruins the flow of the album. Bieber being featured on the track is not welcomed either, for two reasons. Firstly, there is no artistic reason behind this collaboration, and seems merely out of gratitude that she included him on the album as a thank you for pushing Call Me Maybe under the spotlight. Secondly, he doesn't add anything new to the track and only tries to replicate Jepsen's singing style throughout the entire song, making it devoid of personality. Turn Me Up on the other hand encapsulates both the soft and poppy side of the album by centering around its main theme of relationships, all while being reminiscent of a sound that Call Me Maybe lovers would be pleased with. Your discontentment for the inclusion of her old folk sound, as well as Bieber's input are good reasons to perceive it as the worst on the album. You could have gone more in depth about why you thought it was unnecessary for him to be on the track, and the best track explanation was weak compared to the worst one, with the last three lines being statements that you already wrote or things that should be said in the thread instead of in the essay. |
 | Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: March To The Sea || Psalms Alive
Baroness toned down from their heavier sound of Red Album, and their stance of being accessible to more listeners seems successful on March to the Sea. The song draws an image of lingering on the negative things in our life, seen with their references to drugs, and how we're unsubconsciously marching on a road that leads to drowning in misery. While staying true to their lyrical style and message, they take a new direction on the instrumentation. Still heavy with rough vocals, they basically crafted a heavy rock - pop song with its catchiness that could be heard on the radio. Being in the middle of the soft and loud sphere, this track may as well represent their take on Yellow & Green as a whole. I understand what you mean by the 'disjointed' aspect of Psalms Alive. It's still a softer sound but may fail to attract like March to the Sea did. They constructed the song in the typical way that most metals band do. The track is an example of how the instrumentals represent the aggressiveness of the theme, while the vocal delivery presents itself as almost mellow compared to Baizley's usual edginess. Pitching both instrumentation and vocal together, it seems opposing, and even though it may have served its purpose, it's not for casual ears and demand too much attention to get into. You explained your love for March to the Sea perfectly, and I like how you mentioned that the same elements are used in Psalms Alive - making them connected but still disconnected - and how you cannot relate to this one. I understand your take on how one bad song makes you appreciate the beauty of the others, but this positive association was unneeded when talking about the worst song, making the first paragraph off-putting to the complete-opposite aspect of the challenge.
|
 | Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Learn || Wake Up
Jagged Little Pill recounts Morissette's life experiences and she narrates them in such a way that makes the listeners connect instantly - be it through its lyrics or expressive vocals. The track that best demonstrate all of what she is trying to pass across is You Learn. She asks us to take risks, take a stand, and embrace the consequences because in the end they are just lessons, not mistakes or regrets. The song also serves as a teaser of some sort as it mirrors the vocal and instrumental style that is present on the album. Her wave of soft verses and loud choruses mesh well with the elements used and heard throughout the album, making it the go-to track. Her motif to open the eyes of the listener is further seen in Wake Up, where she portrays the absurdity and paradoxes through which we live our lives, and she tells us to get off of it, and live an honest life. Your take on why it is the 'worst' track is valid, It is by no means a bad song, but at this point, we have already heard of this message, as seen on You Learn where she asks us to be fearless. Unlike what we have heard from her before, the 'explosive' aspect seems to lack on this track and somehow the whole song seems to drag on the same note and the album ends on a weaker tone compared to the other songs. Your explanation for the worst song was strong, but the explanation for the best song was very weak. In the You Learn paragraph, very few examples were given as to why the song is the best, and what we derive is that it showcases Morissette's signature style and that you connect with it. Not that these are bad reasons, but we've seen the same explanations for her other songs before, and the rest of the paragraph lingered on the fact that is a good song more than why it is a good song and stands out. |
 | Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: I Get Lonely || Can't Be Stopped
The Velvet Rope is renowned for being Jackson's most personal album, and coming from such a dark period, it only makes sense that the best track would be I Get Lonely. We see her at her most vulnerable state, with revelations of moist eyes, fearful mind, and a deserted heart expressing the desire to be in the embrace of love again to erase her loneliness. Midst other tough themes on the album, this one is the most relatable, therefore serves as an umbrella to not only her gloomy state which is the core of the album, but also one of the finest portrayal of instrumentation and vocal deliverance. Closing such an album with a tint of hope is a happy ending, but Can't Be Stopped was an unnecessary inclusion. It adds nothing new oral nor sound wise, and touches the same theme of hope as in Special, the song to which it is attached to. You explained the best song well by writing about its accessibility, her voice and the harmonies, but your paragraph for the worst track was extremely weak. 3.5 out of 5 lines are about how the song should be hidden away and forgotten and screams filler. These statements are the consequences of the song being bad, but are not reasons why the song is bad. The next 1.5 lines were relevant but still lackluster in description. You gave derogatory terms for the lyrics, chorus and the song which show your dislike for Can't Be Stopped, but you did not go into details to explain why you perceive them to be so.
|
 | VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Competition || Towers
You compared two songs and stated how they oppose each other, but none of those hints at what makes them the best or worst tracks on the album. You completely missed the point. However, you still drew a perfect portrayal of what the challenge is about. Your essay is American Psycho, the other contestants' entries are American Beauty. |

 Second Place! In my own game I had never charted this high BUT it's such a close race, I could be going home next update .

Little Mix Predictable elimination, I was so happy to have them back, but VDK really messed up his entry this round.
Kavish clearly didn't get the memo tonight and ruined an all black panel

Really happy with how this round went. 3rd place with both the public and the judges. My lowest score with the judges being a 6.5 is ok with me. I did the best with what I had left. And now I have just a 3 point gap between me and Kimbra, so a Top 5 placement is a real possibility at this point.

Talk about leaving with a bang!
I think I just broke many CTATAS records.
First person to get 2 points total from the judges
I think I'm the first person to actually get reboot, I mean, I don't know how many records the Mix has broken.
What kind of run they had?
Also, ain't it funny how the first time I was eliminated, I had like a really good score and position and this time, it's like HORRENDOUSLY BAD!
Who else but the queens of pop, Little Mix
And I expected nothing less from any of the judges tbh! Like, if anyone had saved me or given me like a 9, I would have known it was bs. Even I voted myself off. I know I didn't meet the criteria but that's just because of the timing I had to put together my work.
Anyway, Y'ALL BETTER KEEP THE PARTY GOING IN THIS THREAD!
I'll definitely be back next season.

I noticed Pedro stopped doing the Elimination cards with judges comments.

8. holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: 687 Points (ROUND 8 - QUIT)
9. Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: 484 Points (ROUND 7 - QUIT)
10. Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: 482 Points (ROUND 7 - QUIT)
That's why
VDK will get one; in fact, he probably already has one made from last round.
