I went and rewatched the episode "The Evil Queen" in S2 where Regina goes down under clock tower where Maleficient was, and Regina said "there's a special magic down here that keeps her sustained in whatever form she's in". I'm sure they'll go into that, but it seems Maleficient is able to change forms. Unlike Regina and Rumple (and pretty much every other villain) she was born with magic. She's not human, she's a dark fairy.
Idk. I'd be willing to give it a shot. I actually think Henry being evil would make more sense to his character. He's a hormonal teenager and could easily be swayed.
I wonder if they'll use the time travel to explain Maleficient being alive. Maybe they altered something? Or maybe Maleficient overheard Emma and Hook about it?
