One little nipslip there completely obliterated Janet's career in the U.S. and WW forever, so it clearly has some power to its name. Hell, a crappy BEP performance paved the way for their demise just later that year, and it somehow gave DeadM a monumental tour despite the god-awful single she released around that time.
And it's the only sporting event where the performer actually matters. Like who gave a **** about Shakira at the World Cup or the Spice Girls at the Olympics? It was a quick, "Wow, she did a good job!" and "OMFG, THEY'RE BACK!" for both of them, but the SB actually anticipates their performers unlike other events.
