Birthday is the worst. Katy and Captiol got overconfident after Dark Horse's success and overlooked the fact that people wanted something different(melodicwise) from her but instead Capitol opted rehashing the same TD's replicas which backfired on them badly. I hope they learned their lesson well.

Dark Horse is the only legitimate hit from the album. Roar was only big due to TD's effect. Any lead single would've smashed in Roar's place no matter the quality of released single.
Afterall BTW and SIO "smashed" despite being one the worst singles to date.It's called "Lead single effect".

Birthday wasn't the worst because fourth single isn't so important. Second single is crucial for good longevity of the album internationally.
