Cruel World is a standout on UV. Took a while to grow on me, but it's beautiful
My album list is much better than singles. 85% of the time, I'm listening to an album.
Cruel World is amazing. The only song I liked off Ultraviolence before it grew on me.
I didn't know you liked Carrie

Don't Wait - hit that got away
Chasing Time, The London Sessions, 0 to 100
I need to check out most of these Didn't even know some had released.
I like Chiraq more than Shanghai. Don't Wait is so great I hope it catches on.
Azealia and Drake each have more representation here. I wouldn't do them wrong.

What's so NSFW about the gif? Not it being a hint for Something In the Water tho
But that song really takes me to church
Cruel World A lot of people seem to hate it, but I think it's good and is a nice intro to the album.
That's the only Broken Bells song I've heard Best Mistake is cute too!
21. Gagzzzz
18. Bleacherzzzz
17. Ariana again? Or perhaps Calvin?
Well now you can go 0 To 100 on Drake's discography right
I just thought that GIF was a little graphic and didn't want a shark attack on my countdown :toounny2: Perfect clue thought right?
Best Mistake is incredible. Ariana can save the weak Why Try's and One More Time for Katy or someone, I want more est Mistakes from Ariana.
You got two right

Thank you kindly, I do have an urban leaning taste, in fact, if I finish and haven't died of exhaustion from this,, I might list some of my favorite mixtapes!
But I like pretty much everything.

Don't Wait sounds intriguing too
They're great songs to have as favorites.
Don't Wait is incredible if you give it time to sink in. It might not at first.
And Damien Rice's album is pretty good too!

Well thank you. The B's were kind of on fire weren't they. They delivered albums that stung.

15. High Road -Mastodon - Once More 'Round The Sun
It's the lead single for Once More 'Round The Sun. Mastodon took a much more straightforward approach with their sound this time around. They took a more poppy direction with their metal and I wasn't impressed at first. It grew and grew on me. They're incredible at choruses. There is something amazing about how the chorus manages to lift off and spiral down at the same time. Watch the video too! It's hilarious and really sweet adventure into LARP at the same time.
14. Midnight - Coldplay - Ghost Stories
Midnight was a huge curve ball for Coldplay's sound. The advance warning that Ghost Stories wouldn't be their typical album. Gone was the extroverted pleasantness of Mylo Xyloto, replaced by a fragile pulsating production from electronic producer Jon Hopkins whose 'Immunity' was a highlight of 2013. It's frosty song, like a single snowflake or ice-crystal floating down from the sky, lost and meandering. Midnight is quietly among the best things they have ever done. Also notable is their Blair Witch styled video.
13.You're Mine (Eternal) - Mariah Carey - Me. I Am Mariah. The Most Annoying Alum Title Of The Year To Type Out
I think I missed the bitterness here for the longest time. Why would a song about unending love use candy hearts available once a year as a single cover. But then I realized the past tense lyrics, the heavily synthesized production and it feels more like she's let someone go and that the love may have only existed temporarily, if at all, which adds another layer to this track and makes it all the better.
12. Can't Remember To Forget You (feat. Rihanna) - Shakira - Shakira.
By far one of the most fun tracks of the year. Shakira always delivers a couple tracks that are just fun on her albums and that's respectable. The title is insane, the Rihanna feature is just crazy enough to work, the video is endlessly watchable, what's not to like about the song?
11. Invisible (RED Edit) - U2 - Charity Single That Definitely Wasn't Spammed To Everyone
Before U2 mastered the art of musical spam, they released this track for free around the time of the Super Bowl. Invisible succeeds mostly where Songs Of Innocence failed, it doesn't constrain U2's sound. Their stadium filling sound is intact and they are allowed to go as big as they want to. The hooks are strong and memorable, it's classic U2 with a sleek modern sound.
10. Kacey Musgraves makes an appearance on this track that beats U2 at their game
09. Also the best music video of the year.
08. The best Katy single of the year (of all time?)
07. A huge lead single with plenty of brass
06. Club going up?
Drag me all you want, I don't care. This album is amazing. I've loved jazzy music before I love Gaga, so this was kind of a match made in heaven (I'm also on board with basically anything she does). The album is also really good. Gaga sounds like she's thrilled to be doing what she's doing and Tony also rings a lot of charm and sounds like he's having a blast also. The energy is loose and infectious where it needs to be and the background music is strong. Also, the sequencing makes this play as an album rather than a slapped together collection of songs (that combo of Lush Life and Sophisticated Lady is brilliant and makes you feel for both artists when they aren't together). It's better than it had any right to e.
20. Caribou - Our Love
Swim is one of my favorite albums of all time and Our Love is just a bit of a step-down from that one, but Caribou is still one of the best musicians out there. His electronic music and song structure mastery is pretty close to unmatched. Everything is always so tight and carefully measure out on his albums that they just buzz along efficiently. Really, not a moment is wasted and there is never a dull moment as his compositions morph and change at the right time to keep things from ever getting stagnant. That's not to say his music is cold, his alums often are some of the most lived in and human out there. That's where Our Love fails just a little bit, he committed to a more full-on dance sound and this one feels just a little cold, still beyond excellent though.
19. Brantley Gilbert - Just As I Am
Probably the best straight-up rock record of the year. The record plays like a Springsteen record is Bruce grew up in the south instead of New Jersey. The songwriting here could be a bit tighter, but it's solid throughout. A couple listens to this one and it grows on you. Most importantly, it avoids the cliches that modern country music is known for. Sure there are songs about drinking and driving (not at the same time), but are delivered with more grit that they just feel real and more believable.
18. Bleachers - Strange Desire
The best 80s album not released in the 80s. I wanted to hate Bleachers. I really did. fun. wore out their welcome quickly and I heard an interview with Jack Antonoff from Billboard's Pop Shop Podcast and the guy sounded like an ass, but after hearing '1989' I had to check out Beachers. I am glad I did. The album would have been multi-platinum years ago. It's 80s without being derivative, I'd put this guy on the same level as M83 honestly as far as 80s influenced pop rock goes, except Bleachers is more immediate. The choruses and overall sound is huge and gleaming, there are modern touches thrown in (a couple neat breakdowns and an appearance from GRIMES!!!). The most surprising album of the year.
17. Nicki Minaj - The Pinkprint
Never doubt Nicki is the lesson I learned. Just when you think she is going to do one thing, she does the exact opposite. I feel for the Barbz, I really do. This was the record I was looking forward to earlier in the year after Nick went on a rampage with her street singles (Looking Ass, Chiraq, Yas Bish, Boss Ass Bitch, the list goes on). We were going to get a classic album, and then, she started releasing these pop singles that were fine, but in no way they held up. The Pinkprint looked like a disaster with the delays changes to the album. ANd yet, somehow, the singles from the album didn't tell the whole story. The album plays as a cohesive look at Nicki and her mind. Even the pop, an, urban, and dance cuts have a purpose. At the core of the album, Nicki does soul-searching, pill popping, and reflecting; but its all spread out over the course of the album, which also sprawls out beyond the physical CD and extends to iTunes Deluxe tracks, Soundcloud releases, guest features. The Pinkprint is not the classic album Nicki promised, but the events around it were a bunch of classic Nicki moments.
Hints
16. An album by a main favorite that is one of the year's best selling.
15. A punishing but sweet electronic? album.
14. You could play the name game with the artists name
13. The extension of Cariou. You should know this
12. An alum by a rapper with a distinctive southern voice.
Your "Cruel World" write-up is so great, and I agree with most of it (not sure if I think it or "Shades of Cool" is my fav LDR song. Probably a coin flip between the two). I love "Holding On For Life" and After the Disco in general. You are def right that KRIT is underrated. I am very fond of "Something in the Water" as well, and i'm not typically a big Carrie fan. Jaws with the power of Jesus, that's exactly it haha! The London Sessions was a great Q4 surprise, and i'm glad you highlighted it. Midnight is such a great song, and I loved Ghost Stories in general. Love how they changed up their style. And thank you for highlighting "Invisible"!!! I feel like most people have forgotten about that song, but it was so good! I liked SOI more than you did, but at least we can both agree that "Invisible" is an underrated gem. And The Pinkprint really is great! It sounds like we look for the same things in Nicki, loving her more hip-hop-based songs. She is really one of the best rappers alive right now on a technical level, and I wish she was given more credit. And you're right that the more poppy/dance songs feel of a piece with the album as a whole.
Can't Remember To Forget You! I love that song, so underrated and Our Love is a fantastic album! I don't know why I didn't discover Caribou earlier
I love Bottoms Up! need to check out Brantley Gilbert's album
Well now you can go 0 To 100 on Drake's discography right

Hmmm maybe
I couldn't see anything graphic, I thought like some nudity was gonna show or something.
GURL NO WHY TRY AND ONE MORE TIME >>>>
I didn't like Midnight when it first came out. But I definitely see it's beauty. Though once it was midnight and I was listening to the album on earphones and it was pitch dark and this song came on and I got freaked out.
CRTFY's lesbian assplay Invisible is cute too!
Gaga is one of my fave yet I'm not bothered to listen to C2C. I still keep putting Bleachers off.
