Through all of her problematic and secondhand embarrassing antics, I could never do anything but support Lily and enjoy her music (even if it's cheap and kind of recyclable). There's something about Lily's snooty charm that doesn't grow old for me, and I've always been a sucker for a saccharine pop track so the singles from this record clicked with me from day one. What really gets me is that the songs that went unreleased from this album, AKA the songs the record label snubbed, are some of her best work. A true shame, let me cry about it tbh. |
Charli XCX • Sucker

After months and months of relentless whining from so many Charli fans, it's so nice that she really came thru and delivered a very solid pop record like this one. Not one piece of filler, and even the radio candy Break The Rules is a great song. I've seen her aesthetically on point vision since day one, Charli is truly a great artist and it makes me sad to see her not being appreciated at her fullest. Hopefully 2015 will bring good things for her and this amazing, underrated record! Doing It with Rita could either go badly or very well... hopefully the latter. This album is like a continuation of where Avril at her best left off, only with more artistic merit and a British version! I love it/her/etc. |

Jhenι Aiko • Souled Out

I didn't really expect to be so blown away by Jhenι this year - especially following her Sail Out EP, I found her to be a bit mediocre or boring, but I actually fell in love with this album and everything about it. The mood throughout the album stays very mellow and chilled out, Jhenι really found her niche and perfected her style and sound. This album is captivating and simply stunning, brilliant and gorgeous in every moment. My only complaint would be that The Worst or What A Life could've easily found a spot somewhere on this record, I think. Looking forward to see where this lady goes next. |
Azealia Banks • Broke With Expensive Taste

Wow. It's been a long time waiting for Azealia to release this LP but the moment this dropped it was worth every second of the wait. The minute I heard word of it finally being available, surprisingly one morning, I booked to Walgreens and got myself an iTunes card and immediately downloaded this masterpiece, much to my personal approval. This album has a little bit of everything we needed to see from Azealia, testing the waters with like a dozen genres, sharp-as-expected flows, killer instrumentals... this album is nothing short of extravagant, incredible and next-level. I love it, her (as crazy as she may be) and this album is my favorite of the year by a long shot. |

Desperate garbage. This is disgusting and degrading (for JLo, probably a career highlight for Iggy though).
It's really sad to see a global superstar and icon have to bow to such low levels for success. Vile, vile trash.
It's really annoying, too, that Diplo produced this (he's a douche and writes tons of songs about ass which is
annoying and misogynistic just like him) and that Pitbull was on the original. First thing JLO needed, lmao.

I don't care even a little bit that this song is "silly" and "carefree", it's bad, backwards-thinking, male-gaze
demonstrating and dumb. The fact that children everywhere danced around to this song without knowing how much
of a trash song it is. Jason Derulo is seriously such an unnecessary pawn in music. Eek x1000.
pitbull & john ryan fireball
OMG at how bad this is. It's actually kind of funny. Not surprising that it's bad, obviously, because
it's a Pitbull song and apparently the only thing that can save him is Kesha. The unbearable BABYBABYBABY's and
the horrifically stupid instrumental and lyricism is, again, unsurprising, but Pitbull keeps outdoing himself with bad music..

Wow, atrocious. LOL. "Bad bitches scream yassss" being used by a white woman who already
pretends to be black for success is probably the worst ever. Worst lyric ever. A pathetic attempt at garnering buzz and
pandering to gays who don't know any better. Lol @ it actually working, too. I guess this is what we get when Iggy goes solo, y'all!
meghan trainor all about that bass
As much as I'd like to call it a day and low-key bop to some Meghan Trainor songs, her horrifying
ignorance will stop me every time. This song actually gives in to misogyny and kinda supports the idiotic ideology
that women are built to please men. Can't really get over the fact that a song like this is such a huge hit. Pathetic.

Yikes, well I don't know how much I have to write up on this waste of energy but she's pretty awful!
Bottom-of-the-barrel music, a horrible attitude, appropriative accent, racist attitude and she ruins everything.
Insufferable, awful musician that will probably unjustly win a Grammy. Purging tbh.

From dressing up like an idiot to get attention and falling on her face, to dancing cutely in front
of a crowd of toddlers while singing a song about sex and her breasts, to releasing the whitest song of 2014
and calling her nails "Japanese-y", this lady definitely upheld her annoying crown this year, to no one's surprise.
Hopefully she won't BOMB on the Super Bowl and will get a little better in 2015 and release some quality
music because everyone knows she's capable of something more than what she's doing now, eek.

I know this man is supposed to be a rap legend and we're supposed to excuse his enormously
problematic slurs that are beyond unacceptable as "art" and "expression", but it's just old now. He's washed up.
Even his threats to Lana Del Rey and Iggy Azalea are not warranted or funny, he's boring now. Proof is in the sales.

I adore Azealia Banks, I adore her music (look up and see that her album is my #1 of 2014) but the
girl has got to be more articulate and tone it down. She's annoying. I mean, for some of us, it's entertaining,
intriguing and funny. She makes a lot of good points and is very intelligent. But she's still annoying, lbr.

as for annoying people, totally agree about azealia. i've come to realise that i'll never be able to defend some of the things she says. while i think her attitude is kinda awful i'll always be here for the music.
