Lol I couldn't stand Taylor or her music during her 8m+ selling era (Fearless) so you can cut that ****.
I have an interest in sales as a general barometer of pop culture and ofc it is interesting/exciting when someone achieves something historic/unprecedented.
I can marvel at achievements but will only be happy about it if I think the material is good/worthwhile. I drag what I dislike and champion what I enjoy just like everybody else.
I started warming up to Taylor's music with SN, liked Red quite a bit, and enjoy 1989 even more. This is not much of a surprise since I've always loved Max Martin and preferred him to Luke.
I have also never begrudged Katy's success with the singles I have enjoyed (IKAG, TD, E.T., DH, and I even said TIHWD deserved more success), so I'm not really sure where the issue or inconsistency is.
Just because Katy delves into the same territory as Taylor does not mean I am beholden to enjoy or treat her output the same if I think that Taylor makes a vital contribution to her work and Katy is more or less worthless with nothing to offer.
Katy and Taylor are currently in the same lane, that doesn't mean they are on par with each other. Blank Space alone absolutely demolishes any lyrics Lukasz and Co. are capable of producing for Katy to crow.
You don't see me going around saying Taylor demolished Katy cuz I don't think Katy's career is over. I think they are both annoying as people, but I think Taylor has real talent and craft while Katy remains pop star by committee. Deal.
