Taylor vs Spotify: The Battle Nears It's End

Taylor Swift’s been one of the few major mainstream pop starlets today to openly express her opinion of the current landscape of the music industry, more importantly, the sales climate artists like her are in as well as the one all us consumers are facing. Swift’s spoken out saying that she is well aware that the music landscape is changing and that there is but no other choice but to accept streaming as a new major portion of how music is consumed. Though Taylor has shown much comprehension and satisfaction with that, what Swift’s also openly expressed her distaste for is the lack of compensation an artist, his or her co-writers, and producers receive for the work they have available for listeners to stream. Swift along with many representatives from her label have told sources that indeed Spotify does not compensate those who put effort into creating the material for Spotify’s consumers to stream, at least not well enough.

Swift openly spoke about her relationship with Spotify in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, due out next week, “My relationship with Spotify is a very odd and peculiar one. It wasn’t until really this year that I had problem with streaming. I didn’t realize how fast and how great streaming was taking over the industry, and swallowing up album and single buying. I knew because of that, that income would be much lower than people buying full albums and the full priced singles. But what I didn’t expect was streaming services like Spotify to be making so much and the people who actually put dedication and hard work into this music they’re making money off of so little. It’s not right. If an artist actually sat down with other people, had involvement in their craft, and really gave it all they could, hell yes they deserve to be compensated I say at least half of what the streaming service is making. Spotify’s released numbers about how much they’ve payed me but let me tell you that even though those numbers are accurate the conditions they’re under do not make them anymore reasonable. Until artists, including myself are fairly compensated for their work by Spotify my discography is staying off Spotify. Final.”

Spotify has been in major negotiations with Swift’s label Tigerlily Recordings we hear. Deals were being offered constantly and many of them were turned down by mainly we hear Taylor Swift. A source tells us that Spotify was willing to offer Taylor Swift over $15 million dollars to put her discography back on Spotify and move past the predicament. We heard Swift rejected the offer, saying that fairly compensating her doesn’t change the fact that other artists too aren’t being fairly paid.

Finally, after about a month and a half of negotiation and debate, a deal was finally struck between the streaming service, Taylor Swift, and her label Tigerlily Recordings. The deal consisted of Swift being compensated $16.7 million dollars and other artists who’s material is available on Spotify getting an increase in the amount they’re paid. An artist used to make less than a penny, between $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream, because of Swift this more than doubled, an artist now making $0.02 - $0.045 per stream. We’re told Spotify’s income took quite a toll, but it is well worth it as someone of Swift’s power, has enough to influence other artists to pull their work from Spotify

Taylor’s current single ‘Style’ along with her discography have both been added to Spotify for streaming availability, and have already ascended to the top ten in both the Spotify albums and singles charts. Swift’s first ever Greatest Hits album is out next week and it’ll be interesting to see if Swift hesitates to add it to the streaming service’s catalogue.

Demi Lovato Performs On Ellen + SHOCKER

Demi Lovato appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show earlier today to promote her newest single, a duet with Kelly Clarkson. “Didn’t Even Miss You” has had a lot of recent promo of late, including American Idol. Therefor, it should come as no surprise that Demi and Kelly nailed the song and did so while looking immaculate. Both voices were on-point and the ladies challenged their inner divas in the emotional ballad. The ladies received a standing ovation from the audience and Degeneres was in pure shock after the performance.

Lovato then sat down with Ellen for a 20 minute long interview after the performance. They discussed how Demi keeps her voice maintained during promo tours where she’s constantly singing. She claims it’s her blend of tea and silence that keeps her voice in tact.

The ladies then proceeded to talk about fashion, and Ellen made sure to point out how Demi’s style has been perfect recently. Demi hands all of the credit to her glamour and make up team, who have been providing her with all the perfect material. Demi admits to having only a slight input into her exquisite dresses for the “Didn’t Even Miss You” performances, however she’s fine with it as her team does “a spectacular job”.

The interview continued to then touch on Lovato’s love life. This is where Demi drops a bombshell. SHE, AND LONG TIME BOYFRIEND WILMER (THAT’S 70’S SHOW) ARE NO LONGER TOGETHER. Demi was a little hesitant with the details, however it seems as though the split was not amicable, with Lovato hinting that the boyfriend cheated saying, “I guess I wasn’t the only special one I was treated as”. So, as it seems, Lovato is available. Ellen made a joke that the two should “hook-up” backstage, and Lovato joked back “of course, maybe it is time to try something different”.

The interview was light, bubbly and funny. Completely the opposite of the dark and spiritual performance she gave with Clarkson.

The Clara Lionel Foundation hosted a charity auction event in Los Angeles. At the event, Adriana performed her single "Model Behavior" and spoke about her involvement with the foundation.

On the red carpet, Adriana shamelessly plugged her new music and talked about things she was excited about that were upcoming up in her promotion campaign.

"Alongside all the new modeling jobs I will be doing, my music is something I'm very excited about. As you all know, my single "Model Behavior" is on iTunes tonight and I will be performing it tonight. My first album is empowering, bold, and something I can't wait to share with everyone!"

"I will definitely be looking into ways my music can benefit the charity. I am in talks with my label to have some of the proceeds from my single and album sales to go to this amazing foundation."

Miley Cyrus posts Letter to fans



Miley Cyrus released her lead single "D.U.I." from her untitled fifth studio album on iTunes, December 26th, and when the single shot up to number one in the chart, Cyrus felt the need to write her fans a special letter, explaining her excitement about the new project.
The letter reads:

Dear fans,

Excuse the length of this letter but I felt the urge to really let out some of the things that I wanted to say and I wanted to keep up with you guys. The past two years have been really intense for me, I have overcame things, I did things I never thought I could and I received a really large amount of support from my fans throughout the years and I couldn’t ask for more. I don’t know how to thank you guys, I honestly don’t. I just hope that I inspire each and every one of you to enjoy life, to be happy.
It’s nearly ten years since I was on Hannah Montana, and it’s really crazy how changed I am and how much I’ve grown. I feel there’s a special connection between myself and my fans, I grew up in front of your eyes and you have kept supporting me for nearly ten years! that’s crazy.
I want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for making D.U.I. go to number one on iTunes.

I believe that there’s no science behind it, it’s just pure affection. I think when you hear the record you’re gonna really genuinely enjoy it, wether it’s slow or upbeat, pop or rock or r&b, I just wanted the listener to let his mind roam with it, that was the goal. Working on this record, you know writing and going into the studio has been a spiritual journey for me; I don’t remember being that inspired while I’m in the studio, the amount of work I have done proves how passionate about this project. I never thought I could top what I did with Bangerz, but I proved myself wrong.
It’s now the time to let you guys finally hear the material and I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. I’ve been trying hard to keep anything about this record secret but now it’s finally the time that I let it out, I hope you enjoy the music as much I enjoyed making it!
