#30 Iggy Azalea - Work
"Walk a mile in these Louboutins / But they don't wear these ***** where I'm from... / I've been up all night, tryna get that rich / I've been work, work, work, work, working on my **** / Now get this work"
I didn't particularly care for this song at first. My introduction to Iggy Azalea was a ****** song called Red Bottoms, so I was skeptical that I would like anything by Iggy Azalea. This song eventually grew on me, and it's because one of Iggy's trademark songs. Work deserved to be released as a single and smash as well.
#29 Cassadee Pope - 11
"I was a little too young and a little too dumb to ever think the day would come / When dad would drive away and take his love with him / So I grew up fast in a whole new world / Waved goodbye to that little girl / I can see her now, innocent and seven / I wish I had never turned eleven..."
11 is a heartfelt song written by Cassadee Pope from her own personal experiences. I like this song a lot because of how honest it is- I love songs that tell a story, and 11 does exactly that. Cassadee is a magnificent singer and songwriter, and this song is one of the best examples of her magnificent talent.
#28 Diana Vickers - Cinderella
"If Cinderella was here tonight / She wouldn’t walk out the door leaving you behind / Midnight calling but she don’t care / She’d be a fool not to follow you everywhere / Because for you I would lose both, both of my shoes..."
I can't explain why I like this song so much. It's cute, it's catchy, and it deserved to smash. I loved Diana Vickers a few years ago, so this comeback was very anticipated for me. She delivered this bop and slayed me. Once you find someone, you'd go anywhere with them. Heck, apparently you would even lose both of your shoes.
#27 Brand New - Play Crack the Sky
"This story's old but it goes on and on until we disappear / Calm me and let me taste the salt you breathed while you were underneath... / You know that you are not alone / Need you like water in my lungs..."
This song is incredibly unique because it tells a story. As the closing track of Brand New's studio album Deja Entendu, Play Crack the Sky is a fitting conclusion to an album that has quickly become one of my favorite albums of all-time because of how well-written each and every track is. One of my favorite lyrics on this entire countdown appears in this song: I need you like water in my lungs.
#26 Eminem feat. Rihanna - The Monster
"I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed / Get along with the voices inside of my head / You're trying to save me, stop holding your breath / And you think I'm crazy, yeah, you think I'm crazy..."
This is my favorite Eminem/Rihanna collaboration. Love the Way You Lie is tragically heartfelt, but The Monster just felt like a collaboaration for the sake of having a collaboration. Rihanna's chorus is insanely catchy, and is clearly the highlight of this song. This song deserved to smash, and I'm glad it did.
I hope Rihanna delivers in 2015 Thank you for commenting,

Say Something is more of a 2014 for me but it deserves the love. Still Into You was nice but Ainft It Fun was way better imo.
I latched onto Say Something when it was first released so it's more of a 2013 song for me
I prefer Still Into You though Thank you for the comment,

#25 Steve Grand - All-American Boy
"He smiles, his arms around her / But his eyes are holdin me, just a captive to his wonder, ohh / I say we go this road tonight... / Be my All-American boy tonight"
I wish country music would embrace more of this type of music and artist. Steve Grand is truly talented, and country music is literally going out of its way to not embrace him because he's gay. It's tragic, because this song could have been a moderate hit at best. The writing isn't fantastic, but it's heartfelt and easy to sing along to.
#24 Avril Lavigne - 17
"He was working at the record shop / I would kiss him in the parking lot / Tasting like cigarettes and soda pop / Seventeen... / We were on top of the world / Back when I was your girl... / Didn't care about anything / 'Cause it was you and me / We were living our dream / And we were seventeen"
I love this song. Though we all know that Avril was busy recording her first album when she was 17, this song captures what many teenagers feel their adolescence is like, or at least what they want it to be. In an album full of gems, 17 is a standout on Avril's album simply because of its honesty- it's catchy and the instrumental alone is fantastic.
#23 Paloma Faith - Picking Up the Pieces
"Do you think of her? / When you're with me?... / Now she's gone / And I'm picking up the pieces..."
Paloma slayed me again with this magnificent track. Picking up the pieces left by a past love can be an emotionally tragic and draining experience, and Paloma conveys that perfectly in this song. Until Paloma worked with Pharrell, I thought she could do no wrong. She hasn't quite captured my attention since then.
#22 Paul Oakenfold feat. Azealia Banks - Venus
"Une chance, une danse, un rendez-vous en France / L'amour, la tour, on / S'aimerais pour toujours / Une chance, une danse, un rendez-vous en France / L'amour, la tour, on s'aimerais pour toujours"
Azealia, please record more music like this. Between 212 and Venus, Azealia has slayed me twice with two completely different types of songs. Venus has a beat that rivals We Found Love- this could have even been a hit if promoted properly. It's a shame Azealia's talent is still widely unrecognized.
#21 Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up
"So wake me up when it's all over / When I'm wiser and I'm older / All this time I was finding myself / And I didn't know I was lost... / I tried carrying the weight of the world / But I only have two hands"
I would never have expected Aloe Blacc to become a mainstream artist. I think it's a crime that he was not featured on this song, considering that fact that he both wrote it and sings it. Wake Me Up changed the direction of electronic music for the better, but Avicii's failure to credit Aloe is extremely unfair.
