Chris Brown's former stepfather -- whom the singer has accused of abusing his mother -- is speaking out about Brown's Sunday morning arrest for allegedly assaulting girlfriend Rihanna.

When asked by Access Hollywood if he believed Brown hurt Rihanna, Donnelle Hawkins says, "I wouldn't be surprised."

"He (Chris) has to take responsibility for his own actions." Hawkins adds.

In a 2007 interview with Giant magazine, Brown reveals that, when he was 11, he told his mother he would go to jail for killing his allegedly abusive stepfather.

But Hawkins says the abuse claims are untrue.

"There was a lot of arguing between his mom and I," he says. "I never raised a hand at his mom."

"We [Brown's mother and I] argued frequently," Hawkins continued. "As far as physical abuse, there was no physical abuse.

"I spanked Chris one time," he says.

"I became the bad guy. Chris was really mad at his mom for leaving his dad, so I became the scapegoat," Hawkins goes on. "No matter how much I tried to be a father figure, nothing worked."

Now, it seems as if every few seconds a new piece of information about the whole Chris and Rihanna incident surfaces, and each one seems to be more shocking than the first. Earlier we told you how Rihanna is reported to be needing plastic surgery after the attack, and since then a whole host of stories have emerged, including that Chris threatened to kill Rihanna and choked her, plus one another that rapper Jay-Z is "furious" about what happened, and that Chris Brown is basically a "walking dead man". Yikes! Anyway, the latest twist involves our very own Leona, who was a guest at the pre-Grammys party both Chris and Rihanna attended just before the fight. Witnesses who claim they were also at the same party have alleged that Chris was "flirting" with the Bleeding Love singer, with one saying, "They were carrying on and laughing, and Rihanna saw Chris with his hand on the small of Leona's back. It may have been innocent, but that set Rihanna off." Friends of Leona's have been quick to rubbish the claims, saying, "Leona's not like that. She wouldn't flirt and is happy in her own relationship. This has nothing to do with her!" As well as the reports about Leona, other sources in the US are claiming that it was a text sent to Chris' phone that sparked the argument. "He got a text," explains one source, "Rihanna saw it and she got upset. They started to argue. She got out of the car. He wanted her to get back in, so he grabbed her. She pulled away. That’s when she’s told people he hit her." Rihanna has now been discharged from an LA hospital and is staying with friends. It is also being reported that Chris has repeatedly tried to contact her to make amends, but she is refusing to speak to him.

PerezHilton.com is reporting that Jay-Z is furious with Chris Brown and very protective of Rihanna. The source reports that "He hit the roof. Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew."

Perez is also reporting that Brown has been in trouble with the law before. Back in 2007 he and his mother apparently got in a fight where screams were heard and he was throwing dishes at his mother.

Friends of Rihanna are also saying that it's probably not the first time Chris Brown has assaulted her. "In early December, the 'friends' noticed that the pop starlet had very visible bruises on her neck and when they asked her if she was OK, RiRi simply answered, "We broke up again." "

They really need to issue statements, the crazy rumours are getting out of hand. So far Ive read:

-Rihanna has the herp and gave it to Chris which is why they broke up
-Chris flirted with Leona at the Grammys (Perez)
-Drugs were found in Chris's rented car
-Rihanna flipped out because she seen a text from a female on Chris's cellphone about a hook up
-Chris was caught texting Paris Hilton (Dlisted)
-Rihanna was caught having an affair with "an unamed rapper"

There was also a rumour that Rihanna and Kanye West hooked up during the "Glow In The Dark" tour so perhaps he is the "unamed rapper" ... ?

Yeah I agree that statements really need to be released. The fans and the people want to know what happened. I highly doubt that Rihanna gave Chris any kind of STD. I just think they probably got in a huge argument over the text.

I didnt think Rihanna could have an STD but even though Im trying not to believe everything I read I think its pretty clear they have broke up a few times in the past and maybe hooked up with other people.

I believed the Rihanna and Kanye rumours anyway.
