Katy is 30 so she's definitely not in the danger zone for that yet.

This is another concern. I just turned 28. I was really young, but I remember when Cher had a number one hit at 50. I remember when Madonna had hits in her 40s. I remember when Mariah was huge in her mid-30s, and she put out her best single in 20 years at 43 and the highest it could get was number 15. Jennifer Lopez's material wasn't great, but it wasn't awful either, and she's around the same age...her outcome was even worse, and she had even more exposure.
30 doesn't seem old at all, but look at how pop radio has ignored Beyonce and Britney since they turned 30. Sure, Britney's sucked, so we'll see, but I have a feeling that radio is becoming increasingly ageist toward women at a much earlier time in their careers. I know Beyonce's fans think Pop is racist, but I think the younger kids and adults these days are much less eager to listen to anything that's not by someone new, and they don't really care about their legends or established artists like the older (21-25+) millennials do.

I'm not here for DH 4.0. Now that we know that Sarah can write only one type of chorus she needs to bring Bonnie back. She gotta beg for it, beg for it...

It comes down to quality really. I mean, Sia just got her first solo hit at 38.
I don't really saw any pop hit potential on Beyoncé's record, and Britney is just releasing subpar music, so there are different scenarios.
She's safe with radio on her 30's imo, but she need to step her game up now.

when she writes well, she writes really well (CYB). the thing i love about katy is that while she has some definite examples of bad and/or cheesy writing, so many of her songs show depth, meaning, and honest, raw emotion (unlike gaga for example, who has 1-2 truly meaningful songs per album, basically). katy has her fun songs, but if you do a comparison of solely fun party songs and solely deep meaningful songs it's about equal.
anyway, i'd rather her spend time recording backing vocals and writing to make sure she puts out a quality album. i'm sorry, but she'll be nearly 30, she can't have stupid songs like Birthday and TIHWD on her fourth (fifth? whatever) album nearing 30! next album should not be a TD or P rehash, it should show more artistic growth, like the latter half of Prism.
i absolutely katy though and most likely will love whatever she puts out, because i know eventually one day she won't care about being #1 pop girl and she'll make albums that are extremely artistic and deep

Pop Icon is miles ahead
Sarah is such a one trick pony. She's yet to show some diversity when it comes to Katy like Bonnie did.

The first pop single was super radio friendly and definitely sounds like a smash

The only sure you can have about the new material is that's gonna be another 'Dark Horse' chorus. Capitol wants to repeat it for sure.
But at least it's best than Bonnie's material...
If she wants something 'really' new she needs to pay dust for Bonnie, Sarah and Dr Luke and work more with Greg K, but that ain't gonna happen

I completely agree
I'd love her album to be like half the second half of prism, half rockier tracks sonically similar to IKAG, and a few Dark Horse/ET/LL type songs for singles.

This. Both are useless without Max but at least Bonnie wasn't so one-dimensional.

I think she should've just spent some time writing with her opening acts. Tove Lo, Kacey Musgraves, Charli XCX are all fantastic songwriters that could offer a lot to Katy

Just realised how many times Pepsi saved her this era. Dark Horse, Super Bowl, let me go buy a multi-pack.

I mean, she wrote with Kacey and threw it away, doubt it'd be different with the other girls

I'd be here for something lyrically similar to Ghost, Love Me or God, but not sonically.
This Moment and International Smile she can keep.
