And saying "she probably had very little control over that cover" about a woman who is one of the most notorious control freaks in the music industry and literally owns her own production/management company...
I love bell hooks, but everything about her comment just reeks of a lack of research on her part. I think some feminists have subconsciously adopted the idea that an attractive or feminine woman can only be an attractive or feminine woman and nothing more.

All Beyonce did was get her team to find clips from feminist interviews and movies and insert them into her album. I bet it wasn't even something where she went "I know and love the feminist quote in this movie, let's use it." I bet it was more like "find me some great feminist quotes." And then she stood next to a sign that said Feminist.
