Billboard isn't a source. They're a reporting agency.
Billboard box score is based on what is
reported to them.
Billboard charts are based on numbers
reported by neilson soundscan.
When billboard publish these things like above, we can say they're accurate because billboards
sources are recognised as the official numbers.
When billboard run a story like this, it's an
opinion piece. It's not based on official sources, it's based on the opinion of the writer and the
opinion of someone is open to criticism. Especially when their article displays such ignorance as to label Beyonce' as the person that created the blueprint of the surprise release. As i said, she's perhaps the first Major artist to adopt it but she didn't create the blueprint. If other artists before her have surprise released it's just common sense that she wasn't the creator of the blueprint.
