MJ was most definitely not 10x the star before his death, Madonna had been outselling him since the 90s and he had become a joke, but the media did a total 180 on him after he croaked and now for sure he's on another level.

The adoption thing got maybe a day or two in our press. She was literally brushed off as an Angelina reject. That's it. What else has there been in the last 15+ years? Her relationships have never ever drawn any buzz.

And you're right, MJ is now 10x the star she is. But even when he was a huge joke, he was still a much bigger media figure simply because of all the drama. That's why Paris is the way she is.

This is really weird to hear for me because I've grown up with her ALL over the newspapers for every little thing. Her Jesus Luz relationship for example I remember being all over the place. I will wait for confirmation from other Americans because you don't seem trustworthy.

I didn't understand the scope of people's fascination with MJ until I read that an interview he gave to Diane Sawyer in 1995 (well past his prime) was watched by 60M people in the US.

It was the TV event of the summer: about 60 million people watching Diane Sawyer interview Michael Jackson on ABC's PrimeTime Live.

She's right. I do remember some people talking about Madonna when she made her Ultra appearance and referenced molly and the Super Bowl but that's it. And 4 Minutes.

Jennifer is right EXCEPT for the adoption controversy got way more than a day's worth of attention. I remember it being a pretty big deal. But it was almost 100% negative attention.

But otherwise yeah, Madonna doesn't really attract a ton of attention in the media in the US. I mean if she does something, obviously it's going to be covered but...it's not like front-page news, you know? It's more like a brief mention on page 37. I know in Europe Madonna still makes the front pages frequently.
