Streaming is (in my opinion) really changing the music industry and the way people listen to music. Everyday there is something new and people stream and download manyalbums/ songs everyday.
A single or album released two months ago feels like old news.
Are long eras like Teenage Dream coming to an end?
Yeah streaming has definitely given music a faster feel. Albums that were only released a year ago (ARTPOP, BEYONCÉ, Prism, Bangerz, etc) already feel decades old.
Yes. It feels like people give up after the second single now (sans Katy Perry). They promote the first two singles and maybe throw a third one out to float along on its own while they go on tour and the era is pretty much over.
Not ones with multiple smash hits/consistent promotion like Teenage Dream, Loud etc.
it's fun to watch your fav slay but we know the songs long before the gp so smash singles don't really make an era more entertaining. a bit, but not much.
1. Release a single. If it flops call it a buzz single, forget about it, push back the album and release a new one.
2. If the first single went top 20 release a second single by the time the album is released and promote the hell out of it.
3. Throw around a 3rd single, if it flops end the era, if not, go on tour and consider releasing a 4th with a cheap video and 0 promo.
4. End the era and start writing for the next one.
Kind of, in a way. Society is growing continuously more passionate about the concept of instant gratification and it's moving faster than ever as media and markets connect and form one giant conglomerate world.

No. It's MUCH entertaining to do the single guessing, the music videos, the promotion at award shows, etc.
