Thanks.
the worst part about it was that she really was coming into her own during the ITZ era.
Her looks
Her body was the most realistic
Her personality was the most fun, exuberant and authentic as she was over the perfect image and into her college years
People don't understand how pivotal of a period ITZ was. Had her base not followed her she would be done.
Her 3rd era was a transitional period but Justin did a lot of damage to make his career pop.
Like i love you struggled.
i remember when it peaked quickly at 19 (for a first single with hype top 10 was expected) and remember the MTV diary (original airing) when his team were so certain he'd debut at #1 they put it in the ending credits and then it didn't happen.
I started looking at mediabase/radio and records (RRonline)
during that period Xtina's dirty surprisingly flopped because it was urban pop which was in but for some reason people were turned off. Also, LILU was not a hit and was ridiculed for the MJ knock off
So they both rush released singles. I remember CMAR got 90 something adds. At that time it was typical for the song to be added the week of week before the album but they pushed it a couple weeks before the normal period.
I remember AFTER CMAR LILU started getting more spins and I believe it matched its peak again at 19 or higher or something. Essentially the controversy made Justin a star and helped LILU rebound in the states.
So while Britney was on break people were wondering if she could survive as justin and xtina did.
She made the perfect album to represent her life and connect with her fanbase to show growth as an artist and person.
She was headed in the path of more control...then Federline happened and it all went downhill.
Whenever i listen to Don't hang up, the answer, Brave new girl and shadow I get this weird feeling in my stomach. It takes me right back to when I was in college listening to ITZ (that was my all time favorite album during that part of my life) and how I just felt she finally cemented herself to truly have the potential to give us Janet and Madonna albums. ITZ was her first one to do that...
when Chaotic came out...I got nervous...and we all know why now
I'm sad

I don't like thinking about 2004 because it was the beginning and END of her path to being a respected artist...and not a respected pop artist for her many hits and surprising longevity
