I think it is genius how Taylor has taken back the narrative with these first two singles from 1989. What I mean by this is that last year, Taylor was criticised by the sections of the gossip media and the haters were having a field day. People were saying she dates everyone in Hollywood, is boy crazy, can't keep a man, dates just for material etc. We've all heard that nonsense. Her fans all wanted Taylor to rebut that rubbish. Now Taylor has responded in song.
Whenever Taylor has a single out, she does interviews and explains what the song is about, why she wrote it, the motivations behind it. With SIO it is about how the haters cannot get her down and she will just go on with her life. She knows she is not a professional dancer, but she is fine with that. She just has fun dancing and will keep doing it because she enjoys it. She IS a professional songwriter though, so she wrote a song about this and it is a WW smash. So thanks for the inspiration, haters, you lose.
Her next single, Blank Space, is a satirical song, written from the viewpoint of the fictionalised caricature of Taylor that the gossip media have created in lieu of any actual scandal to report. In describing the motivations for the song, Taylor is baldly stating that these descriptions of her are untrue and thus the gossip media is full of BS. Not only is she calling them out on their crap, but she used their made up stories to inspire her to write the ingenius song, Blank Space. This will soon be another WW smash. So thanks for the inspiration, lying gossip media, you lose.
So this shows that Taylor won't be stopped by the liars and the haters. She will just turn it around to her advantage and make more hits, gain more certifications and break more records. In essence, Taylor always wins.
